John du Pont had competed in and help fund teams in several sports prior to and through the 1980s, but during the 80s he took interest in American wrestling.

He donated money to several colleges to help fund teams and started his own training facility to help the U.S. National team get the training needed to beat eastern block countries.

Located on 1,800 acres, the wrestling facility he built was state of the art at the time.

The facility saw several world and Olympic champions train and compete there. It was located within Delaware County in Pennsylvania.

Answer: 1996

Schultz, an Olympic champion who was at the time training for an attempted comeback at the 1996 Olympics, was at his house in January of 1996.

John du Pont drove up to the house, had a short confrontation with Schultz and fired multiple shots at the wrestler.

No motive was ever revealed for the shooting.

In 1980 John du Pont bought the one of a kind 1856 1c black on magenta stamp of British Guiana.

At the time he paid about $900 thousand for the stamp. When he died his estate sold the stamp for $9.5 million.

He had a large stamp collection which he continued to add to while in prison. He was allowed to purchase, but not allowed to possess the stamps in the prison.
10. Did John du Pont ever get out of prison after his murder conviction?

Answer: No

The man died in prison in 2010. He wasn't set to be released until 2026, having been denied parole.

He spent 14 years in prison before his death.
