Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This young law school dropout became one of the most reviled killers in modern history, preying mostly on young women. His most heinous crime was an attack on a sorority house after escaping from prison. Who was this man?

Answer: Ted Bundy

Ted Bundy was the ghoul who destroyed those lives at the Chi Omega sorority in 1978. In the 1970s he was a one man crime wave. The former law student acted as his own attorney for his first trial on the sorority killings, which got him condemned to death. His execution was carried out in 1989, ridding the world of this menace forever.
2. This British serial killer is now often referred to as the British Jeffrey Dahmer, despite the fact that his crimes predated Dahmer's by over a decade. Who is this despicable man?

Answer: Dennis Nilsen

Nilsen, a fairly small and unimposing man, detailed his confession to police for over thirty hours. Parts of the young men he murdered were found all over his apartment. Nilsen was sentenced to life in prison in 1983, at the age of thirty eight.
3. This pair of killers operated in Canada and their first known murder victim was the sister to one of them.

Answer: Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka

Bernardo and Homolka started close to home. Their first victim, lured by Homolka and sexually assaulted by Bernardo, was Karla's young sister Tammy. Tammy died during the experience, and this was such a thrill to the pair that they continued killing. Eventually Homolka made a deal to testify against Bernardo.

The deal was considered too lenient by most Canadians and it's thought that she got away with murder.
4. This old devil was as strange as they came. He preyed on kids in the late 1920s and early 30s. What was this killer's name?

Answer: Albert Fish

Albert Fish was described as pretty well gray all over. He preyed mostly on children and was very unstable, although he was found competent for trial. Fish admitted his crimes and was executed in 1936.
5. This man was the model for many modern horror movies, including "Psycho" and "The Silence of the Lambs", despite the fact that he was convicted of killing only one person. His main interest was in digging up bodies at the cemetery. Who was he?

Answer: Ed Gein

The Eddie Gein case was a spectacle for many years, until some of the modern serial killers eclipsed him. He was convicted in a single murder case and spent the rest of his life in a mental hospital, being a model prisoner.
6. This so-called Genius Serial Killer stands well over six and a half feet tall. He killed over a half dozen people back in the early 70s in California. What was his name?

Answer: Edmund Kemper

Edmund Kemper planned his killings methodically, leaving very little evidence for police to seize upon. He was found out after he turned himself in for killing his mother. His confession and subsequent interviews gives us one of the most complete looks at a serial killer's personality ever. Kemper is in jail and will likely remain there for the rest of his natural life.
7. The Night Stalker terrorized Los Angeles for months in the early 1980s. This satan worshiping killer was finally caught and despite numerous appeals, his death sentence was upheld.

Answer: Richard Ramirez

Ramirez's trial was much delayed, including a hiatus caused by the murder of one of the jurors mid-trial. In November 1989, Ramirez was sentenced to die.
8. This investment genius (He'd amassed over a half million in a Merrill Lynch investment account) was also a cold blooded killer, keeping innocent women captive in an old house and killing them if they disobeyed his direct orders. Who was this madman?

Answer: Gary Heidnik

Heidnik was found guilty of the killings in 1988, the most damaging evidence being the testimony of his former captives. Heidnik was executed by lethal injection in July of 1999.
9. Known often as the 'Pied Piper' this unlikely Don Juan killed some of his old girlfriends to get out from under their thumbs. F. Lee Bailey represented this man, who was he?

Answer: Charles Schmid

Charles Schmid was the young man. The case was one of the first to use the pre-trial publicity argument for being postponed, an argument tried and failed by F. Lee Bailey. Schmid was convicted of three murders and spent eight years in prison before dying in a prison stabbing.
10. Another one of the major baddies here, this man murdered 33 young men before police caught up with him. He tried to be clever, but hiding the bodies in his own basement proved to be his undoing.

Answer: John Wayne Gacy

Gacy was a diabolical and methodical madman, managing to keep his killing spree a secret for over five years. Gacy's crimes were atrocious, and a jury found him guilty in less than two hours. He was executed by lethal injection in 1994.
