On February 17, in the year 1673, Molière had a hemorrhage while he was playing the role of Argan in "Le Malade Imaginaire", but he really wanted to go on with the performance. He died later that night, in his own house. The priests didn't want him to be buried in holy ground, because actors had no social standing and were excommunicated by the church, but the King permitted it four days later, and Molière was buried in the Cemetery Saint Joseph.
