Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Jesse James' age when he robbed his first bank?

Answer: 18

Jesse Woodson James (September 5, 1847 - April 3, 1882) is often depicted as a Robin Hood type character, but it is doubtful that he used his ill gotten gains for anybody but himself. During the Civil War, Jesse and his brother Frank were guerrillas for the Confederate Army.

Their gang activity spanned 10 years starting in 1866. (That first robbery netted James $62,000, which was his largest take.)
2. The breakfast cereal Wheaties is known for featuring athletes on its box. Who was the first?

Answer: Lou Gehrig

Henry Louis Gehrig (June 19, 1903 - June 2, 1941) played 17 seasons as first baseman for the New York Yankees from 1923 to 1939. He was a strong hitter which earned him the nickname "The Iron Horse." He was forced to leave baseball when he was stricken with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
3. Which person, connected to the Revolutionary War, also worked as a dentist?

Answer: Paul Revere

Paul Revere (January 1, 1735 - May 10, 1818) was mainly known as a silversmith in Boston, Massachusetts. He alerted Colonial forces to approaching British forces before the battles of Concord and Lexington, but he never shouted "The British are coming!" as secrecy was important. From 1768 to 1775, his silversmith business began to suffer, so he took up dentistry.
4. Rick owns a 1868 fifty dollar Confederate bill. Which famous person is featured on it?

Answer: George Washington

George Washington (February 22, 1732 - December 14, 1799) was the first President of the United States of America, from 1789 to 1797. He has appeared on numerous coins and paper money, including all $1 Federal Reserve Notes since Series 1963.
5. Who is depicted in the painting with the highest value in the shop?

Answer: Jim Morrison

James Douglas Morrison (December 8, 1943 - July 3, 1971) was the lead singer of the rock and roll group The Doors. He was quite intelligent, with a possible I.Q. of 149. Morrison often used poetry passages during his band's performances. He died at the age of 27 from a supposed drug overdose, but since an autopsy was not performed, the cause is widely disputed. (The painting was done by Denny Dent and can be seen in the showroom in most episodes.)
6. How much money did Lucky Luciano personally make in 1935?

Answer: $1,200,000

Charlie Luciano (November 24, 1897 - January 26, 1962) is considered the first boss of organized crime in the United States. In 1936 he was sentenced to 30 to 50 years for running a prostitution ring. In 1946 he was paroled and deported for his aid to the U.S., by using his connections in Italy during World War II, which were minimal according to Luciano. (That equals $120 million in 1998 dollars.)
7. Who once gave a lecture while wearing a diving suit?

Answer: Salvador Dali

Salvador Domènec Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, Marquis de Púbol (May 11, 1904 - January 23, 1989), was a prominent Spanish surrealist painter. His most famous work was "The Persistence of Memory." The painting is of pocket watches melting, which is thought to represent the fact that time is not rigid or unchanging.
8. What did Benedict Arnold try to sell to the British during the Revolutionary War?

Answer: West Point

Benedict Arnold V (January 14, 1741 - June 14, 1801) was a general in the Continental Army, but later defected to the British Army. Arnold was being considered by George Washington to be commander of West Point when he made the offer to sell it to the British for £20,000.
9. Pawn Star's most valuable Gold Record is "Come Dance With Me." Who recorded it?

Answer: Frank Sinatra

Francis Albert Sinatra (December 12, 1915 - May 14, 1998) began his singing career in 1935, but had little success until 1939 when he joined The Tommy Dorsey Band. He also had a successful acting career, teaming up with stars such as Rita Hayworth, Bing Crosby and Edward G. Robinson, as well as many others.

He was one of the members of The Rat Pack, which included Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. (The "Come Dance With Me" album was his most successful of his career, staying on the Billboard Pop Chart for 140 weeks and peaking at number 2.)
10. How much was Joe DiMaggio paid in 1951 by the New York Yankees?

Answer: $100,000

Joseph Paul DiMaggio (November 25, 1914 - March 8, 1999) played baseball for 13 years, all for the New York Yankees. One of his best accomplishments was a 56 game hitting streak which ran from May 15 to July 16, 1941. In 1954 he married Marilyn Monroe, but they divorced after only 274 days.
