Schulz's final daily strip, 'Peanuts', appeared January 3, 2000 after he announced his retirement. A special Sunday strip farewell was already slated to appear on February 13, hours after his battle with colon cancer ended. Young was the creator of 'Blondie', Capp created 'Lil Abner' and Herriman gave the world 'Krazy Kat'.
