Miguel Angel Asturias Rosales (1899-1974) was born in Guatemala and was known as a poet, writer and diplomat. He lived part of his adult life abroad. Many consider "Hombres de Maíz", 1949, his masterpiece; but his most famous novel is "El Señor Presidente", published in 1949. In 1967 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

In the 1830s Emerson toured in Europe where he met with several writers and philosophers. He was the central figure in the group known as American Transcendentalists, a movement of the mid-19th century.

Jerome David Salinger (1919-2010), better known as J.D.Salinger, was an American author of many short stories and novels. His best known book is "The Catcher in the Rye" published in 1951. Salinger lived many years in seclusion; he never stopped writing but he stopped publishing. Those responsible for his will, his widow Colleen O'Neill and his son Matt Salinger, declared that his unpublished works would be published.

Gabriel Garcia Marques (1927-2014) was the most important Colombian writer, journalist, and activist politician of the 20th century. His books have been published in more than 40 languages. In 1982 he received the Nobel Prize for Literature for the impact of his work, which among other books includes the book "One Hundred Years of Solitude" published in 1967 and that is considered a landmark of Latin American literature and of fantastic realism.
10. Stephen----------King

Stephen Edwin King (b.1947) is an American author known for his tales and novels of horror, suspense and supernatural. At age of 20, King sold his first short story called "The Glass Floor". His first novel published was "Carrie" and after that published numerous novels, many of which were adapted for film and television.

In 1999, he was run over and had to undergo several surgeries. He announced that he would stop writing; but for the joy of his fans he changed his mind and continue writing.
