Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I never tried to sing like anybody else; fortunately I didn't sound like anybody else.

Answer: Andy Williams

Andy Williams had a relaxed singing style and personality who did not require a moonwalk nor a costume made of meat to please his fan bases. His signature song was "Moon River" from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961). From 1962 to 1971 he had his own network variety program. In 1991 he opened his own theater in Branson, Missouri where he performed until 2011 and died shortly after.
2. Clark Gable was the first to have called me a mermaid.

Answer: Esther Williams

There is a parade of athletes who later became successful actors. Esther Williams was a noted amateur swimmer who dreamed of the 1940 Olympics that were cancelled due to World War Two. But her beauty was an additional asset. Although she was to make a number of acting appearances, she is most remembered for the specially scripted films that showcased her swimming talents.
3. I was a pretty good imitator of Roy Acuff, but then I found out they already had a Roy Acuff, so I started singin' like myself.

Answer: Hank Williams

Hank Williams died in the backseat of a rented car on New Year's Day in 1953. Although the official cause of death was heart failure, Williams, on a singing tour, had ingested an unknown amount of alcohol in addition to chloral hydrate and morphine. Today he is regarded as one of the founding fathers of country music. "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Jambalaya", and "Honky Tonkin" are a few of the classics he left behind.

The song, I think, that delved deep into his soul is "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry":

"Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry.

I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind the clouds
To hide its face and cry.

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves began to die?
Like me, he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry.

The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry".
4. Do I perform sometimes in a manic style? Yes. Am I manic all the time? No. Do I get sad? Oh yeah. Does it hit me hard? Oh yeah.

Answer: Robin Williams

Perhaps the suicide of Robin Williams came as a shock to his fans. Beginning with his stand-up comic routines in the San Francisco area to his portrayal of an alien in "Mork and Mindy" (1978-1982), he built an acting career, then blossomed into an acclaimed performer.

Many of his films reflect his manic stage performances but many show his ability to perform in character. His ability to act would not be surprising if you knew he studied acting at Julliard where his fellow students were Christopher Reeve, William Hurt, and Mandy Patinkin.

He won or was nominated for many Golden Globes and Emmy awards and won the best supporting actor for the psychologist/teacher in "Good Will Hunting" (1997). He hanged himself after learning he had dementia.

Although his career was interupted by World War Two and the Korean Conflict, he amassed a .344 lifetime batting average with 521 home runs and 1839 runs batted in.
