2. In 1929, Syrian-Lebanese immigrants established one of the first mosques in the United States. After several mosques had been opened in Eastern states such as New York or Maine, this one was built on a remote prairie of a rather cold state. Where?

Answer: North Dakota

The tiny city of Ross, ND was the site of one of the first buildings in the U.S. designed to be a mosque. It was built in 1929 by Syrian-Lebanese immigrants who had been settling in the region since the end of the 19th century. By the 1970s, the mosque was in such a dilapidated state that it had to be dismantled.

However, one of the town's remaining Muslims, Sarah Allie (Omar) Shupe, wanted it rebuilt. Her family fulfilled her wish in 2005, shortly after Shupe died.

5. Who was the Anglican cleric who helped found the Methodist Church?

Answer: John Wesley

John Wesley (1703-1791) did not start out to separate from the Anglican church. However, his private home "societies," his itinerant preaching, and the annual conference of Methodist leaders all led to his "break" (although he remained within the Anglican Church). Wesley ordained his own preachers who were sent to America, and the Methodist Church would slowly evolve away from the Anglican church.

6. As described in the New Testament of the Bible, how did John the Baptist die?

Answer: Beheaded

According to Matthew Chapter 14 and Mark Chapter 6, John the Baptist was put into prison for criticizing the Jewish tetrarch Herod Antipas for marrying Herodias, his brother's wife. Both accounts suggest that Herod was reluctant to kill John as he was a popular prophet.

However, he made a rash promise of a boon to Herodias' daughter after the girl completed an entertaining dance for party guests. Herod offered the girl up to half his kingdom but her mother, Herodias, told her to ask for the head of John the Baptist.

Herod had given his word so he had John the Baptist beheaded.
