Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Philip. (Acts 8:26-40)

Answer: Ethiopian eunuch

The story of his conversion of the Ethiopian eunuch by Philip can be found in Acts 8:26-40. Philip was one of the seven Grecian Jewish disciples, originally appointed to oversee the distribution of bread to widows in the community. Some trivia about the eunuch: Acts 8:27 describes him as an "important official" as he was in charge of the treasury for Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. Philip encountered the Ethiopian while he was returning by chariot from Jerusalem where he had gone to worship. Immediately after the Ethiopian became a believer in Jesus Christ, Philip baptized him in water along the side of the road.
2. Find the match for Onesiphorus. (2 Timothy 1:16-18)

Answer: Helped Paul

It's apparent Onesiphorus was extremely kind and loyal to Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. In 2 Timothy 1:16-18, in the NKJV Bible, Paul writes: "The Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain; but when he arrived in Rome, he sought me out very zealously and found me. The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that Day -- and you know very well how many ways he ministered to me at Ephesus."

In 2 Timothy 4:19, Paul mentions his friend once again, when he writes: "Greet Priscilla and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus."

According to the website, Christiananswers.net, Onesiphorus means 'bringing profit'.
3. Find the match for Priscilla and Aquila. (Acts 18:24-26)

Answer: Apollos

According to Scripture, Priscilla and Aquila took Apollos, a worker in the early church, under their wings and provided instruction. Acts 18:24-26, in the NKJV Bible, states: "Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately."

Verses 27 and 28 state Apollos later went to Achaia and he "greatly helped those who had believed through grace... showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ."
4. Find the match for Zacharias in the NKJV and Zechariah in the NIV. (Luke 1:11-25)

Answer: Visited by an angel

Luke 1:11-25 tells of the angel Gabriel appearing before Zecharias and telling him of the upcoming birth of his son, who would become John the Baptist. When Zecharias doubted Gabriel's claims, he was rendered speechless as per Luke 1:20. After the baby was born, Zecharias wrote on a tablet the infant was to be called John and according to Verse 64 "immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak, praising God."

Zecharias was a priest who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah and his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron, as per Luke 1:5.
5. Find the match for Peter's mother-in-law. (Mark 1:29-31)

Answer: In bed with fever

No name is given for the woman, but according to the first chapter of Mark, Jesus healed Peter's mother-in-law when she had come down with a fever. Mark 1:29-31, in the NKJV Bible, states this about the mother-in-law of Peter, who was also known as Simon: "Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

But Simon's wife's mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them."
6. Find the match for Paul. (Acts 9:9)

Answer: Blinded by the light

According to the 9th chapter of Acts, Paul, who was known as Saul at the time, encountered Jesus while traveling on the road to Damascus and became temporarily blind.

Acts 9:3-6, in the NKJV Bible, states: "As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?' And he said, 'Who are You, Lord?' Then the Lord said, 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.' So he, trembling and astonished, said, 'Lord, what do You want me to do?' Then the Lord said to him, 'Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.'"

According to Verse 9, Paul was without sight for three days after being blinded by the light.

Acts 9:17-18 tells of Ananias restoring Saul's sight: "And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, 'Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.' Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized."

Damascus is in southwestern Syria and, according to Wikipedia, it is the oldest continually inhabited city in the world.
7. Find the match for Gabriel. (Luke 1:26-38)

Answer: Angel who visited Mary

The account of Gabriel telling Mary the news she would give birth to Jesus, while still a virgin, can be read in the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke. Gabriel is also the angel who told Zecharias his wife Elizabeth would give birth to a baby, although he was an "old man and his wife was well along in years." Because Zecharias questioned Gabriel's pronouncement, he was unable to speak until the baby was born.

The baby, of course, was John the Baptist.
8. Find the match for Nymphas in the NKJV and Nympha in the NIV. (Colossians 4:15)

Answer: Laodicea

In the KJV and the NKJV, the person's name appears as Nymphas, indicating a male. In the NIV, the name appears as Nympha, indicating a female.

In the NKJV, the apostle Paul states, "Greet the brethren who are in Laodicea, and Nymphas and the church that is in his house."

Practically nothing else is known about Nymphas/Nympha because this is the only time the person is mentioned in Scripture.
9. Find the match for Jairus. (Mark 5:21-43)

Answer: Young daughter

Scripture states Jairus was a synagogue ruler and his 12-year-old daughter was raised from the dead by Jesus. The account of the miracle appears in Mark 5:21-43 and Luke 8:40-56.

The account of the unnamed girl being raised from the dead is one of most popular in the New Testament. In the accounts in Mark and Luke, it tells of people weeping for the dead girl outside her home. When Jesus appeared and stated the girl was not dead but was simply sleeping, the 'mourners' laughed at Him. A few moments later, however, their laughter turned to total amazement when Christ raised the girl from the dead.
10. Find the match for Stephen. (Acts 6:15)

Answer: Face of an angel

Acts 6:15 leaves no doubt Stephen was special. According to Scripture, when Stephen was on trial before the Sanhedrin, his accusers looked "intently" at Stephen's face and "they saw that his face was like the face of an angel." They may have seen the face of an angel, but before long those same people would be committing devil-like acts against Stephen and by the end of Acts 7, he was executed.

When it comes to mortals, perhaps no other man in the New Testament commands as many praiseworthy statements as Stephen. For example, Acts 6:8 reports Stephen did "great wonders and miraculous signs" among the people. This on top of him being described in Verse 5 as "a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit." No details are given about the "great wonders and miraculous signs". However, considering Peter and Paul raised people from the dead, Stephen's accomplishments must have been every bit as great to rate such accolades by Luke, the writer of Acts. When it comes to raising people from the dead, Peter of course revived Dorcas (Acts 9:36-43) and Paul did the same for sleepy Eutychus (Acts 20:7-12).
