Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Acts 28:3-6, a highly dangerous animal bit Paul after he was shipwrecked, and nothing happened. What was the animal?

Answer: Viper

Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, was bitten by a viper after surviving a shipwreck off the coast of Malta, according to Scripture. When other people saw Paul bitten by the viper, they expected him to die. However, Scripture reports Paul did not suffer any serious condition and he carried on as if nothing happened.

For details about the viper attack, see Acts 28:3-6.
2. Acts 9:36-41 tells of Peter raising Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, from the dead. Where did the miracle take place?

Answer: Joppa

The miracle took place in Joppa. Details about Peter raising Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, from the dead are found in Acts 9:36-43. According to Verse 40 in the NKJV, Peter simply said, "Tabitha, arise" and she did just that! Joppa is now known as Jaffa and is part of Tel Aviv.
3. According to Acts 13:8-11, what was the name of the sorcerer who was blinded at Paul's command?

Answer: Elymas

Elymas, who was also known as Bar-Jesus, was blinded at Paul's command, as per Acts 13:6-12. The passage states Elymas was a false prophet and sorcerer Paul encountered in Paphos, a community on the island of Cyprus.

When Elymas started opposing the Gospel message, Paul announced he was the "son of the devil" and the "enemy of all righteousness". The passage goes on to tell of Paul proclaiming Elymas would not see the sun "for a time". And sure enough, that's exactly what happened. Scripture tells of Elymas being unable to see after a dark mist miraculously fell on him.
4. Acts 9:32-35 tells of Peter healing a man who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years. What was the man's name?

Answer: Aeneas

Aeneas is the correct answer. According to Acts 9:32-35, Aeneas had been bedridden and paralyzed for eight years. Verse 34 gives details of the miracle: "And Peter said to him, 'Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.' Then he arose immediately." The passage states the miracle took place in Lydda and numerous people in the district "turned to the Lord."
5. According to Acts 14:8-18, in what community did Paul heal an unnamed man who had been crippled from birth? (It's the same town Timothy came from.)

Answer: Lystra

It was at Lystra where Paul healed an unnamed man who had been crippled from birth. After observing the man listening to him, Paul commanded the man who had never walked to "Stand up straight on your feet!" Incredibly, Scripture states the man "leaped and walked." See Acts 14:8-18 for details.

Lystra was an ancient Greek city in what is now known as Turkey. It was at Lystra where Paul met Timothy, a young and timid worker in the early church. According to Scripture, Paul visited Lystra on a number of different occasions. Using the NKJV, Lystra is mentioned six times in the New Testament.
6. What member of the original Twelve Disciples was with Peter when he healed a crippled man at the Beautiful Gate, as per Acts 3:1-9?

Answer: John

Peter was with John when he healed a crippled man at the Beautiful Gate in Jerusalem. Details about the miraculous healing appear in Acts 3:1-9. When the unnamed crippled man asked for money, Peter responded: "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." Peter then took the man by the right hand and lifted him up "and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength." Scripture goes on to tell of the man "walking, leaping and praising God."
7. Who was in prison with Paul when an earthquake resulted in their release? (Acts 16:25-33)

Answer: Silas

Silas, a worker in the early church, was in prison with Paul when an earthquake changed things dramatically. According to Acts 16:25-33, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns in a jail cell in Philippi at midnight after they had been stripped, severely beaten and flogged. Verse 26 in the NKJV explains what happened next: "Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were loosed." Paul and Silas, unlike the other prisoners, did not flee the prison after the earthquake struck. Instead, they stayed behind and used the occasion to convert the jailer to Christianity.

The passage goes on to tell of the jailer taking Paul and Silas into his house and having his family baptized. Later, Paul and Silas would visit the household of Lydia, a previous convert to Christianity, before departing from Philippi.

Scripture isn't clear, but the insinuation in the passage is the earthquake rocked only the jail where Paul and Silas were incarcerated and nowhere else in Philippi.
8. Scripture tells of Peter being miraculously released from prison by an angel on two different occasions.

Answer: True

True. Peter was released from prison by an angel on two different occasions, as per Acts 5:17-29 and Acts 12:1-17.

In the first miraculous jail break, as per Acts 5, Peter was incarcerated with the other apostles for preaching the news of a resurrected Jesus Christ. In the second incident, as per Acts 12, Peter was the lone Christian in the heavily guarded jail.

In both cases, Peter continued to fearlessly preach the Gospel message to the unsaved after he was miraculously set free.
9. On what island was Paul when he healed the father of a leading citizen as well as numerous other people, as per Acts 28:7-10?

Answer: Malta

Paul was on the island of Malta when he healed the unnamed father of Publius, a leading citizen, as well as an unstated number of other people. According to Acts 28:7-10, the father of Publius was sick with a fever and dysentery and when Paul prayed and laid his hands on the man, he was healed. Verse 9 states, "So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed."

Paul and his entourage ended up in Malta after they had become shipwrecked.
10. As per the interpretation of Acts 5:15-16 by most scholars, a number of people were healed when Peter's shadow fell on them.

Answer: True

It's incredible, but Scripture tells of an unstated number of people being healed when Peter's shadow fell on them. Acts 5:15-16 explains things this way in the NKJV: "So that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them. Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed."

Peter and the other apostles were meeting at Solomon's Colonnade in Jerusalem when the miraculous healings took place, as per Acts 5:12.

It must be stressed some people interpret the passage differently, stating it does not CLEARLY state people were healed when Peter's shadow fell upon the seriously ill.
