Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. II Samuel chapter two speaks of two kings. First, David is anointed king over Judah. Who is then anointed king over Israel?

Answer: Ishbosheth

II Samual 2:8-9 tells that Ishbosheth, one of Saul's sons, was anointed king over Gilead, the Ashurites, Jezreel, Ephraim and all Israel. Jonathan, another of Saul's sons, had already been killed. Abner was the captain of Saul's army.
2. What did Elisha request of Elijah in II Kings 2 before Elijah was taken from him?

Answer: a double portion of his spirit

This is recorded in II Kings 2:9 and indicates that Elisha wanted to carry on Elijah's ministry. In the following verse Elijah gives the conditions by which this request will be granted and in verse 11 Elijah is taken up by a whirlwind into heaven.
3. II John verse 7 says that the one who denies that Jesus Christ came in the flesh is which of the following two things?

Answer: a deceiver and an antichrist

John was dealing with false teachings taught by the gnostics. They taught that matter was entirely evil and this led to their teachings about Christ that denied his true humanity. This is why John makes the serious statement that the one who does this is a deceiver and an antichrist.
4. In II Chronicles 2 Solomon begins to gather materials for building the temple. He requests cedar and fir logs from Lebanon and agrees to give the servants of the king of Tyre 20,000 units of what items?

Answer: wheat, barley, wine and oil

Solomon sent a message requesting lumber for the temple. II Chronicles 2:8-10 deal with the information in this question - 20,000 measures of beaten wheat and barley, as well as 20,000 baths of wine and oil. Huram, the king of Tyre, responds in agreement in a message found in the same chapter.
5. When writing the book of II Timothy Paul mentions two of Timothy's relatives. Which relatives does he mention in II Timothy 1:5?

Answer: his mother and grandmother

II Timothy 1:5 speaks of the faith of both Timothy's grandmother, Lois, and his mother, Eunice. Paul indicates that this same faith is in Timothy, too.
6. In II Thessalonians 2:15 Paul reminds the believers in Thessalonica to stand firm in what they have been taught, regardless of the means by which they were instructed. What means does Paul mention?

Answer: word and epistle

Paul knew that the believers in Thessalonica had learned from him when he was present with them, but they had also been taught about faith in Christ through his first letter to them, I Thessalonians. All the other answers are good means by which we can learn about Christ, but not all were mentioned in this verse.
7. A proverb is quoted by Peter in II Peter 2:22. What two animals are mentioned in this proverb that relates to people turning away from their faith?

Answer: a dog and a sow

The proverb quoted is: "The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."
8. In II Peter 2:6 Peter refers to two places mentioned in the Old Testament. What are they?

Answer: Sodom and Gomorrah

Peter mentions Sodom and Gomorrah as an example to others living ungodly lives. These two cities were destroyed because of their wickedness in Genesis 19.
9. John indicates that he has many things to say to his audience in III John, but he says that he prefers a visit rather than communicating through which of the following means?

Answer: ink and pen

III John 13 says "I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee." In II John 12 John says basically the same thing, but he mentions paper and ink in that verse. In both cases he prefers a face to face visit.
10. In II Corinthians 4:18 Paul makes a comparison between which two things?

Answer: things seen and things unseen

II Corinthians 4:18 says, "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." Good words to think about.
