Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what Old Testament book are the instructions for building the Tabernacle found?

Answer: Exodus

Fifteen chapters of Exodus are dedicated to the Tabernacle (Exodus 25-40). No other single thing is given more consecutive chapters in the Bible.
2. What was the purpose of the Tabernacle?

Answer: For God to dwell among the people

Exodus 25:8 says, "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them." The Tabernacle did provide a place for sacrifice and worship, but Gad wanted a place for himself among the Israelites. As for salvation, the Bible says that "without shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22).
3. How many veils were in the Tabernacle?

Answer: Two

Exodus talks about two different veils, the inner veil, between the Holy of Holies and the Holy place (Ex. 26:31-33), as well as the outer veil, which was between the Holy Place and the Outer Court (Ex. 26:36-37). The inner veil that was moved to the Temple later on is the one that was rent in two from top to bottom when Jesus was crucified in the New Testament (Matthew 27:51).
4. Where was the mercy seat located?

Answer: On top of the Ark of the Covenant

Exodus 25:21 says, "And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark..."
5. What was the mercy seat made out of?

Answer: Pure gold

Ex. 25:17 - "And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold..."
6. What was to be used to keep the lamp in the Tabernacle burning?

Answer: Olive oil

Ex. 27:20 - "And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beated for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always."
7. The priests over the Tabernacle came from which tribe of Israel?

Answer: Levi

Numbers 1:50 says, "But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it..." Aaron, according to Ex. 28:1, was the first priest.
8. Who did God choose to be in charge of building the Tabernacle?

Answer: Bezaleel and Aholiab

Ex. 31:1-11 mentions these two specifically. These verses also say that God gave them the abilities that they needed to carry out this task.
9. Which of the following was not a piece of furniture in the Tabernacle?

Answer: The Urim and Thummim

The Urim and Thummim were in the breastplate worn by the priest (Ex 28:30).
10. After the Israelites inhabited the Promised Land, who built the Temple (a permanent building) to replace the Tabernacle?

Answer: Solomon

I Kings 6 and 7 tell about this. Chapter 8 tells of the Ark of the Covenant being brought into the Temple and the glory of the Lord filling the building, just like it did in the Tabernacle in the wilderness.
