Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My father was Ahimelech and when David became king I was appointed high priest of the Israelites. Later, I was deposed by Solomon because I took part in a failed attempt to make Adonijah king. Who am I?

Answer: Abiathar

Abiathar is the correct answer. 1 Kings 1 tells of Adonijah receiving the support of Abiathar in his quest to become king, but it was all for naught as Bathsheba intervened to make sure her son Solomon would become king. The second chapter tells of Solomon being extremely angry with Abiathar and even going as far as to state he thought he should die for his actions, as per verse 26.

The end result was that Abiathar was banished to Anathoth.
2. I was the daughter of Eliam and my first husband was Uriah. Who am I?

Answer: Bathsheba

Bathsheba is the correct answer. She had an adulterous affair with David and after she became pregnant David took action to have her husband Uriah killed in battle. She was the mother of Solomon, Shimea, Shobab and Nathan and a fifth son, her firstborn, who died shortly after childbirth.

The infant who died was the product of the adulterous affair with David. No name is given in Scripture for the infant who died.
3. I was the fifth son of Jacob and my mother was Bilhah, an aide to Rachel. I was a founder of one of the twelve tribes of Israel. Who am I?

Answer: Dan

Dan is one of the founders of the 12 tribes of Israel. Scripture states Dan's brother was Naphtali. According to Genesis 46:23, Dan had a son called Hushim. In Genesis 49 Jacob blesses his sons and states this about Dan: "Dan will provide justice for his people as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan will be a snake by the roadside, a viper along the path, that bites the horse's heels so that its rider tumbles backward."
4. I was the third son of Aaron and I succeeded my father as the high priest. I also played a role when Moses took a census of the people and helped at the inauguration of Joshua. Who am I?

Answer: Eleazar

The correct name is Eleazar. Numbers 20:22-29 tells of Aaron dying and Eleazar receiving his father's priestly garments from Moses on Mount Hor. Eleazar's involvement in the census with Moses is recorded in the 26th chapter of Numbers. His participation in the inauguration of Joshua to replace Moses is reported in Numbers 27:12-23.

Incidentally, there are a total of eight men in the Bible with the name Eleazar. According to Wikipedia, Eleazar means 'God has helped.'
5. I was the seventh son of Jacob and my mother was Zilpah, Leah's aide. My full brother was Asher and I was a founder of one of the twelve tribes of Israel. Who am I?

Answer: Gad

Yes, Gad was one of the founders of the 12 tribes of Israel. Scripture states Gad's brother was Asher and they were born in Praddan Aram. According to Genesis 46:16, the sons of Gad were Zephon, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli. In Genesis 49, Jacob blesses his sons and states the following: "Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heels."
6. After the death of my parents I was adopted by my cousin Mordecai and I ended up marrying the king of Persia. I became known as Queen Esther. Who am I?

Answer: Hadassah

Hadassah is the original name of Queen Esther, as per Esther 2:7. The passage in the NIV Bible states: "Mordecai had a cousin named Hadassah, whom he had brought up because she had neither father nor mother. This young woman, who was also known as Esther, had a lovely figure and was beautiful. Mordecai had taken her as his own daughter when her father and mother died." Esther, of course, would go on to play a key role in preventing the extermination of the Jews in the vast area ruled by the king known as Xerxes in the NIV Bible.
7. I was the son of Abraham and Sarah and when I was a young man my father prepared to sacrifice me as an offering to the LORD. Who am I?

Answer: Isaac

The story of Abraham preparing to sacrifice Isaac is one of the best known stories in the Old Testament. Scripture reports God commanded Abraham to take his son Isaac to a mountain in the region of Moriah and to sacrifice him as a burnt offering. Just as Abraham was preparing to sacrifice Isaac, Scripture reports an angel of the LORD called out and told him to spare his son because it was evident Abraham feared God.

After the angel called out, Abraham spotted a ram in the thicket and used it as his sacrificial offering.

The story is told in the 22nd chapter of Genesis. Many Christians compare this episode to God's sacrifice of His own son, Jesus in the New Testament.
8. I was the father of Saul, the first king of the Israelites. Who am I?

Answer: Kish

Kish was the father of Saul. Scripture states Kish was a Benjamite and he was the son of Abiel, who was the son of Zeror, who was the son of Bekorath. Bekorath was the son of Aphiah and the grandson of Benjamin. 1 Samuel 9:2, in the NIV Bible, states: "Kish had a son named Saul, as handsome a young man as could be found anywhere in Israel, and he was a head taller than anyone else."
9. I was the son of Hezekiah and I became king of Judah at the age of 12 years. I reigned for 55 years. Who am I?

Answer: Manasseh

Manasseh became king at the tender age of 12 and, according to Scripture, ruled until he was 67. Scripture states Manasseh was extremely brutal. 2 Kings 21:16, in the NIV Bible, states Manasseh "shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end." Scripture also reports he worshiped false gods and rebuilt high places his father Hezekiah had destroyed. According to Wikipedia, the name Manasseh means "causing to forget."
10. I was the son of Enoch and the grandfather of Noah. Scripture says I lived for 969 years, longer than anyone else in the Bible. Who am I?

Answer: Methuselah

Methuselah was the oldest person in the Bible, living for 969 years, according to Genesis 5:27. Holding down second spot for the oldest living person in the Bible is Jared, who lived for 962 years as per Genesis 5:20. Adam, who lived for 930 years, was the third oldest person in the Bible, as per Genesis 5:5. Methuselah's longevity has given birth to today's comical expression that someone or something is "as old as Methuselah".
