Leyland wore number 10. Number 8 belonged to Willie Stargell, and is retired. Number 4 is also retired in honor of Ralph Kiner, and number 7 was worn by former Pirate manager Chuck Tanner. Leyland was the NL Manager of the Year in 1990.
