General John Forbes (1710-1759) was a British general during the French and Indian War who took over Fort Duquesne from the French in November, 1758. He renamed it Fort Pitt, where the city of Pittsburgh now stands.

Pittsburgh shortstop Glenn Wright recorded the triple play against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 7, 1925. Wright caught a line drive by Jim Bottomley, then tagged second base to double off Jimmy Cooney and then tagged Rogers Hornsby for the third out.

Interestingly enough, Cooney would, two years later, as a member of the Chicago Cubs, recorded his own triple play at Forbes Field, against the Pirates.

Answer: Hank Greenberg

Greenberg was acquired from the Detroit Tigers at the start of the 1947 season. The area became known as Greenberg Gardens. After Greenberg retired following the 1947 season, the area was renamed Kiner Korner in honor of Ralph Kiner.

Answer: University of Pittsburgh

Forbes Field was sold to the University of Pittsburgh in 1958, with the condition that the Pirates would continue to play there until a new stadium was built. That happened in 1970, when Three Rivers Stadium opened. Forbes Field was then demolished and the site is now occupied by graduate schools for the university.
