Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Denizens from the first planet in our solar system choose to land in Mercury, Alabama in order get their baseball fix. Where is the closest MLB ballpark they can get to from there?

Answer: Turner Field (Atlanta Braves)

A trip from Mercury, Alabama to Turner Field is only 177 miles, while driving to St. Louis (Busch Stadium) is 427 miles, St. Petersburg, Florida (Tropicana Field) is 655 miles, and Houston (Minute Maid Park) is 769 miles.
Turner Field, the home of the Atlanta Braves, can be found at 755 Hank Aaron Drive, Atlanta, Georgia. Also known as 'The Ted,' Turner Field was built for the 1996 Olympics, and was originally named 'Centennial Olympic Stadium.'. It could seat 85,000 for the Olympics. After being refitted for baseball, it could seat 50,528.
2. Venusians like the Colorado Rockies best of all, so which of these locations would put them closest to Coors Field in Denver?

Answer: Venus, Nebraska

Venus, Nebraska is a 482 mile drive to Coors Field at 2001 Blake Street in Denver, while the Venus in Texas is 792 miles away, Missouri's Venus is 801 miles distant, and the one in Kentucky is 1,202 miles away.
Coors Field opened in 1995 with a seating capacity of 50,200. The Colorado Rockies have been the tenants of Coors Field since it was built, spending the first two years of franchise existence in their previous digs, Mile High Stadium.
3. Our closest neighbors on the moon get tired of trying to watch games through telescopes, so they land in Moon, Kentucky to go see the closest MLB team from there. Is that the Cincinnati Reds?

Answer: Yes

The Cincinnati Reds play in Great American Ball Park at 100 Joe Nuxhall Way in Cincinnati, Ohio, only 156 miles from Moon, Kentucky. The next closest ballpark to Moon is PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates (in Pennsylvania), at 345 miles.
Great American Ball Park was completed in 2003 and could seat a total of 42,271 people. The Reds' former home of 32 years was Cinergy Field (aka Riverfront Stadium).
4. Martians, as you can imagine, enjoy the Cincinnati Reds, the Boston Red Sox, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Cleveland Indians... which of those ballparks is the furthest drive from their landing spot of Mars, Pennsylvania?

Answer: Busch Stadium (St. Louis Cardinals)

Located just north of Pittsburgh, the town of Mars, Pennsylvania is a mere 120 miles from Cleveland, 322 miles from Cincinnati, 580 miles from Boston, and a whopping 620 miles from St. Louis!
Busch Stadium, the home of the St. Louis Cardinals, can be found at 700 Clark Street. The stadium opened in 2006; the seating capacity on opening day was 43,975 although, with standing room, capacity went up to 46,861. Prior to the construction of the new stadium, the Cardinals played in Busch Memorial Stadium for nearly 40 years (1966-2005).
5. Jovians land in Jupiter, California when they come to Earth to watch baseball. Unfortunately, they are not keen on any of the California-based teams. With Jupiter being located 100 miles southeast of Sacramento, which ballpark is a closer drive: Chase Field (Arizona Diamondbacks) or Safeco Field (Seattle Mariners)?

Answer: Chase Field

From Jupiter, California, it is a 738-mile drive to Chase Field in Phoenix, while to head north to Safeco Field in Seattle would be an 855-mile drive. The closest California-based ballpark to Jupiter is Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, 135 miles away.
Phoenix's Chase Field, also known as 'The Aircraft Hanger,' can be found at 401 East Jefferson Street. It formerly held the name Bank One Ballpark (from 1998-2005). Construction finished in 1998, providing an original seating capacity of 48,500. One of the pleasant features of the stadium is its retractable roof.
6. The Saturnians need to land in Saturn, Texas, and that means that they have to travel 1,415 miles to see their favorite team - one that shares a similarity with their home planet. Which stadium do they drive to?

Answer: Angel Stadium of Anaheim (LA Angels of Anaheim)

That's right, Saturnians are irresistably drawn to the team with the 'rings' (Angel halos)! Saturn, Texas is just east of San Antonio, and the driving trip from there to Anaheim is 1,415 miles. Even at that staggering distance, the drive up to Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario (Canada) is farther at 1,642 miles, and Fenway Park in Boston further yet at 1,982 miles distant. Angel Stadium of Anaheim (also known as 'The Big A') is located at 2000 Gene Autry Way.

It was built in 1964 and then renovated in 1998.

The original seating capacity of the stadium in 1964 was 43,250 and, after the renovations, the capacity increased to 45,957. The Angels franchise have been tenants of the stadium (formerly named Anaheim Stadium (1964-1997) and Edison International Field of Anaheim (1998-2003)) since it was originally constructed.
7. With no towns carrying the same name as their home planet, citizens of Uranus camp in the hills of Uranus Ridge, Idaho, before heading to the nearest MLB ball park. That, of course, is Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners!

Answer: True

Uranus Ridge is a geographical feature near Kellogg, Idaho, about 150 miles from the Canadian border. The trip to Seattle and Safeco Field is 368 miles, and the next closest MLB ball park is nearly 1,000 miles away (Oakland, California).
Safeco Field, at 1516 First Avenue South in Seattle, Washington, was finished in 1999. Like a few other ball parks in the Majors, Safeco Field sports a retractable roof, which can keep its 47,878 capacity crowds warm and dry. Before acquiring their new stadium, the Mariners were housed in the Kingdome for 22 years (1977-1999).
8. Landing in Neptune, Iowa, not far from Sioux City, Neptunians can make a short trip of under 300 miles to the nearest MLB ball park. Which one is it?

Answer: Target Field (Minnesota Twins)

The placement of Neptune within Iowa made all the difference in this one. Because of its proximity to Sioux City (in the northwestern part of the State), Minneapolis made for the nearest MLB city. Neptune, IA to Target Field is a trip of 259 miles, while to go to see the Royals at Kauffman Stadium is only 310 miles. Target Field, at 1 Twins Way in Minneapolis, was built over two-and-a-half years to open in 2010. With a seating capacity of 39,504, it is in the bottom third of the MLB parks for crowd capacity. Target Field is the Minnesota Twins franchise's sixth stadium since its 1894 establishment, and its third since arriving in Minnesota in 1961.
9. Landing in Pluto, West Virginia, the Plutonians head northeast, hoping to catch a ball game while waiting to address the United Nations on their downgraded 'dwarf planet' status. Which stadium is closer to the United Nations building: Yankee Stadium (New York Yankees) or Citi Field (New York Mets)?

Answer: Yankee Stadium

7 1/2 miles separate Yankee Stadium (161st Street) from the United Nations Building (405 E 42nd Street), while the distance is 8 3/4 miles between the UN and Citi Field.
The original Yankee Stadium housed the New York Yankees from 1923 until 2008, at which point the franchise moved across the street to their new digs. It set a record for the most expensive ballpark ever built at the time of its construction. Its seating capacity of 50,291 also places it amongst the largest in the league for crowd capacity.
10. Star Trek enthusiasts insist that Vulcans also love baseball, and coming from outside our solar system, they have the furthest to travel. If they also travel to the MLB ballpark the longest distance from their landing site at Vulcan, Alberta (Canada), where would they go?

Answer: Marlins Park (Miami Marlins)

Vulcan, Alberta is located just south of Calgary, and since the *closest* ballpark is Safeco Field in Seattle (687 miles), it only stands to reason that the furthest ballpark is Marlins Park in Miami, Florida (2,943 miles away). Marlins Park was newly opened for the 2012 baseball season after nearly three years of construction. Since the franchise beginnings in 1993 (as the Florida Marlins), the team was housed in the Sun Life Stadium. With a new stadium, the team also adopted a new name, becoming the Miami Marlins. Marlins Park, with a seating capacity of 37,442, is one of the smallest stadiums in the Majors.
