Portugal, the hosts of the tournament were beaten 2-1 by Greece. The Greeks opened the scoring on 7 minutes when Karagounis gave them the lead. They took a two goal lead on 67 with a penalty from Basinas. Ronaldo gave Portugal their consolation goal on 90 minutes.
2. Group A: Spain won their opening match against Russia 1-0.

Answer: True

Spain did infact win their opening match 1-0. Valeron was the scorer for the Spanish on 60 minutes.
3. Group A: Portugal beat Russia 3-0.

Answer: False

Portugal did win the match, but the scoreline was 2-0, not 3-0. The goal scorers for Portugal were Maniche on 7, and Rui Costa on 89 minutes.
4. Group A: Spain drew with Portugal 1-1.

Answer: False

Portugal beat Spain 1-0 with Nuno Gomes scoring the winning goal on 57 minutes. Portugal therefore went through to the last 16, and Spain went home.

Portugal won the game 6-5 on penalties, Beckham and Vassell missed England penalties, which saw them go out, and Portugal went on to the semi-finals.

Answer: True

Greece produced the upset of Euro 2004, and arguably any European Championship, by knocking out reigning champions France, courtesy of a single goal by Charisteas on 65 minutes. Therefore Greece went on to the semi-finals, and France went back home.

Answer: False

It was Holland that won the match by the same scoreline on penalties, and not Sweden. Robben netted the crucial kick for Holland to send them through to the semi-finals.
