Ayrton Senna won three titles in 1988, 1990 and 1991. His career was cut short when he died in a crash at Imola in 1994.

The first grand prix at Monaco was held on 21st May, 1950. Juan Manuel Fangio won the race, driving an Alfa Romeo. The GP was the longest in Monaco's history, as the drivers had to complete 100 laps. Fangio took 3 hours, 13 minutes and 18.7 seconds.

Panis was born in Lyon. He set up residence in Grenoble with his wife Anne and their two children Aurelien & Caroline.
