Answer: Roy Face

Face was a relief pitcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was 17-0 before he lost his first game in the 1959 season. He ended the season with a 18-1 season record, setting a Major League record for 18 relief wins in a season. 1959 was also a historical year for the Pirates when pitching teammate Harvey Haddix went a perfect 12 innings before losing his game in the 13th.

He was never credited with an official perfect game.
4. Which team was the first in history to have a player on their roster who had 3000 career hits and 500 stolen bases to his credit?

5. Who was the first player in Major League history to win the Most Valuable Player Award with two different teams?

Answer: Rogers Hornsby

The others all won a season MVP with different teams, but it was Hornsby who did this first. Hornsby won two MVPs four seasons apart. His first was in 1925 with the St. Louis Cardinals for having a .403 batting average. The season prior in 1924, he missed out on the MVP although batting .424. Rogers was traded to the New York Giants and Boston Braves, then to the Chicago Cubs in 1929. 1929 was when he won his second MVP by batting .380 in the season.
6. Which Major League team set a snail's record by stealing only 17 bases in an entire season?

Answer: St. Louis Cardinals

The slow-legged 1949 St. Louis Cardinals set this embarrassing record. Second baseman Red Schoendienst had almost half their total with eight stolen bases. The Dodgers went on to lose the World Series to the Yankees four games to one.

The Monumentals were part of the Union Association in 1884, while the Orioles were in the National League in 1884. The Terrapins was another Baltimore team, and showed their faces in the Federal League in 1914.
8. In 1950, the Boston Red Sox set a league record by defeating a team by 25 runs. Which team was on the losing end of this embarrassment?

Answer: St. Louis Browns

The season belonged to the Yankees by winning yet another consecutive World Series title. The third place Boston Red Sox provided this bit in history by defeating the Browns 29-4. Boston's Dom DiMaggio and Ted Williams contributed mostly to this fiasco.

Answer: Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers mowed over the Blue Jays on August 28, 1992, when they beat Toronto 22-2. Scott Fletcher and Kevin Seitzer led the Brewers with five hits each. The Blue Jays used six pitchers, and saw starter Jimmy Key take the loss.
