Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On March 25, 2007, Mark Martin did something he hadn't done since November 22, 1987. What was it?

Answer: He didn't race

Despite leading the points as NASCAR headed into Bristol Motor Speedway, Martin opted to skip the race and let rookie Regan Smith drive the #01 Army Chevrolet. Martin was going along with his plan of running a part-time schedule in Cup racing for the 2007 season.
2. Forty three drivers is the required number of entries for a NASCAR race and had been that way since the 1997 season. There was one race in the 2001 season that had forty two drivers in the race. Which one was it?

Answer: New Hampshire 300 ( Loudon).

The New Hampshire race was pushed from its usual mid-September time-frame to the end of the season due to the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
3. One race in 2005 set a record for most cautions (22) in NASCAR history. Which race was it?

Answer: Coca Cola 600 (Charlotte)

The Saturday night race in late May was mired with 12 different accidents. From start-to-finish, the race took five hours and 13 minutes. Jimmie Johnson went to victory lane.
4. When a car has a yellow rear bumper, what does that mean?

Answer: The driver is a rookie

Rookies have to race with yellow bumpers during their entire rookie season. Veteran drivers like this idea because when it comes time to draft with someone during the end of a race, they know who to avoid.
5. What was the biggest track on the NASCAR circuit during the 2000s decade?

Answer: Talladega

The track, located in the eastern half of Alabama, has a measured lap length of 2.66 miles. The track is popular for its constant side-by-side racing and high speed drafting.
6. What does a flag with red and yellow vertical stripes mean?

Answer: Debris on the track

They only display this flag at road courses, which is Watkins Glen and Sonoma.
7. When a red flag with a yellow x is displayed, what does that mean?

Answer: Pit road is closed

This really helps out the driver's spotter so they can tell their driver when the pits are open for tires, gas, and any other adjustments.
8. NASCAR introduced it's first driver from Japan in 2002, who was it?

Answer: Hideo Fukuyama

At 47 years old, he attempted to make a rookie season run in 2002, but only wound up racing two races in 2002 and in 2003 in the #66 Ford Taurus for Travis Carter Motorsports. Once the team folded at the end of 2003, he hasn't been in another race since.
9. NASCAR welcomed its first Columbian, Juan Pablo Montoya to the sport and raced as a rookie in the 2007 season driving for Chip Ganassi, in the #42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge. Who raced the car the previous year?

Answer: Casey Mears

Mears piloted the car in 2006 after the departure of McMurray. He amassed six Top 5's and 26 Top 10 finishes. In 2007, Mears drove the #25 Nat'l Guard Chevrolet for Rick Hendrick Motorsports.
10. In 2006, Ray Evernham partnered with owner James Rocco to have his car teamed up with Evernham's #9 and #19 Dodge. What car number did Rocco own?

Answer: 10
