Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these Major League Baseball players did not win a batting title in the 1980s?

Answer: Rod Carew

Rod Carew had a lengthy career and played for both the California Angels and Minnesota Twins. He may not have won any batting titles in the 1980s, but he did win six in the 1970s. He was also elected to the MLB Hall Of Fame in 1991.

Madlock won a batting title in 1981 and 1983. Gwynn won his in 1984, 1987, 1988, and 1989. Boggs won his in 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1988.
2. Nine times during the 1990s a Major League Baseball team hoisted up the World Series Championship trophy. Which of these teams was not one of those nine?

Answer: Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers had quite a bit of success in the 1980s. They made the playoffs four times and twice won the whole thing. However, the 1990s were not as kind to the boys in blue. They managed only two playoff appearances and both times were swept in the first round.

The Reds won their title in 1990, the Braves in 1995, and the Twins in 1991.

Answer: Don Drysdale

Drysdale was a man among men. "Big D" didn't care if you were Mickey Mantle or the 25th man on the roster. He would go right after you without a care in the world. With his intimidating presence and fastball, Drysdale helped lead the Dodgers to three World Series titles, but he never threw a perfect game.

Martinez threw his perfect game in 1991 as a member of the Montreal Expos against the Dodgers. Cone threw his in 1999 as a member of the New York Yankees against the Expos. Barker threw his in 1981 as a member of the Cleveland Indians against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Answer: Joe Morgan

Joe Morgan is widely considered as one of the top second basemen of all time. The Hall Of Famer won five Gold Glove awards and was a pivotal component of the Cincinnati Reds' huge success in the 1970s. Answer: Larry Walker

Larry Walker will always be remembered mostly for being a Colorado Rockie, but he came up with the Montreal Expos and retired as a St. Louis Cardinal. Walker had a phenomenal career with multiple All-Star selections, multiple Gold Glove awards and was the 1997 NL MVP.

Ripken was a career Baltimore Oriole, Gwynn never played for a team other than the San Diego Padres, and Biggio always called the Houston Astros his home team.

Answer: Kenny Lofton

Although Lofton never stole 100 in a season, he was still a force to be reckoned with on the bases. He led the AL in stolen bases five straight seasons from 1992-96. He had a career high of 75 in 1996 while playing for Cleveland.

Brock stole over 100 bases in 1974, Coleman did it three times in 1985, 1986, and 1987. Henderson also did it three times in 1980, 1982, and 1983.
