1. Who was War Admiral's famous sire?

Answer: Man O' War

By Man O' War out of Brush Up, War Admiral had one of the most preeminent pedigrees of any Thoroughbred. Not only was Man O War his sire, but he also had the blood of such great horses as Fair Play (the sire of Man O' War), and on the dam line he had: Ben Brush and Pink Domino.

Answer: The Mighty Atom

This nickname stemmed from the fact that he was a rather small horse, a full hand shorter than his famous dad. He was also called simply, The Admiral.
3. What did War Admiral have a great dislike for?

Answer: The starting gate

In many of his races, the Admiral delayed the start by several minutes because he balked at the starting gate. He eventually settled down but he never stopped hating them.

Answer: Seabiscuit

Seabiscuit was the premier West Coast horse and War Admiral the premier East Coast horse. Many racing fans urged for a meeting between the two in a special race to determine who was the best.

Incredibly, War Admiral managed to finish the race and win it even after injuring himself in the race. Right out of the starting gate, he stumbled and sliced off a small part of his right heel. This injury would come back to haunt him in later races.

Many racetracks wanted to hold the special match race but Belmont Park won out in the end, offering a purse of $100,000. Before the race, however, Seabiscuit developed leg problems and it was postponed. It was eventually held at Pimlico, War Admiral's home track.

She never gave up, but the Admiral beat her every time. He came out in front in the Wilson Stakes, the Saratoga Handicap, the Whitney Stakes, and the Saratoga Cup, just to name a few.

Sadly, War Admiral was unable to beat Seabiscuit when the match race was finally held. It was held at Pimlico and Seabiscuit held the Mighty Atom off and won by four lengths.

Answer: 1

He only ran once and he won once. Then he was retired due to more trouble with his ankle and foot stemming from his injury in the Belmont.
10. Was War Admiral named Horse of the Year during 1938?

Answer: no

Unfortunately, Seabiscuit grabbed the honors that year and robbed War Admiral of a two-year win of that particular award.
