Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Many of you may know that the longest streak still belonged to the Chicago Cubs when the Chicago White Sox won the World Series in 2005, but what you may not know is what single team did the Cubs beat in 1908 for their last World Series win in the century and lose to in their last World Series appearance in 1945?

Answer: Detroit Tigers

The Cubs beat the Tigers in consecutive years in 1907 and 1908. The Tigers went on to play in the 1909 series and lost again, this time to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
2. When the White Sox won the Series in 2005, what American League team had the second longest World Series winless streak having not won since 1948?

Answer: Cleveland Indians

Those Cleveland Indians beat the Boston Braves four games to two. Ironically, the Braves (now of Atlanta) had won the World Series (1995) against the Cleveland Indians four games to two.
3. When White Sox won the series in 2005, what franchise became the third longest to win a World Series?

Answer: Giants

The Giants franchise won the World Series in 1954 when they played as the New York Giants. The Giants franchise moved to San Francisco in 1958. The 1954 series was their fifth title, having won in 1905, 1921, 1922, 1933, and 1954.
4. When the ChiSox won the 2005 Series, which franchise that was founded in 1961 was still empty-handed for a World Series victory?

Answer: Texas Rangers

You can't totally blame Arlington for this because the Rangers were formerly Washington Senators from 1961-1971. The franchise moved to Texas for the 1972 season.
5. By the time the Chicago south-siders hoisted the World Series trophy in 2005, which team more famous for its unique stadiums than its winning ways, was still winless since its founding in 1962?

They all became in the sixth position for waiting the longest to take home the title.

Answer: False

Although the Seattle Mariners had yet to win the World Series, they were not formed until 1977. The Milwaukee Brewers (formerly the Seattle Pilots) also had not won a World Series when the White Sox broke their 88-year drought. The Nationals and Padres were founded in 1969 and were tied for sixth.

Answer: Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates played in that very first World Series and lost to the Boston Pilgrims (later Red Sox) five games to three.
8. When the Chicago White Sox uncorked their first bottle of champagne in 2005, which team with over 120 years of history came in 11th, having won their first World Series in 1980?

Answer: Philadelphia Phillies

Although when the White Sox won in 2005, the Chicago Cubs were sitting on their 97th year of waiting for the big one. The Phillies had once waited for 97 years from 1883-1980, before winning their first series.
9. By the time Juan Uribe threw out Orlando Palmeiro for the final out of the 2005 World Series, what National League team which was tied for second for most World Series' won, was in 12th in World Series futility having last won the Series in 1982?
