1. Which team won the first World Series in 1903?

Answer: Boston Pilgrims

None of the other teams listed, existed in 1903. The Pilgrims led by pitchers Cy Young and Bill Dineen, defeated Honus Wagner and the Pittsburgh Pirates, five games to three.
2. Which player set a record by hitting five World Series home runs in 1977?

Answer: Reggie Jackson

The others were all retired in 1977. The 1977 Series saw the Yankees against the Dodgers. Jackson had hit 32 home runs in the regular season, then added five more in the October outing. He hit home runs in games four and five, then popped for three in game six. The Yankees won the series four games to two.
3. Which team finished out the 1990s, by being skunked four games to none by the Yankees in 1999?

Answer: Atlanta Braves

The other teams never saw a World Series in the 1990s. The Yankees also skunked the Padres in 1998.
4. From 1949-1953, the New York Yankees was a household name by winning five consecutive World Series. In those 28 consecutive World Series games, how many times were the Yankees shutout?

Answer: 1

An amazing record along with an amazing streak. When the streak began in 1949, the Yankees shutout the Dodgers in game one, 1-0. The Dodgers returned the favor with the same score in game two, with Preacher Roe blanking the pinstripes. This was the only Yankee shutout in those five World Series.
5. Which St. Louis speedster tied his own record by stealing seven bases in the 1968 World Series?

Answer: Lou Brock

None of the others ever played for the Cardinals. Brock set a record in 1967 against the Boston Red Sox. He tied his record of seven the following season against the Tigers, but in a losing effort to Detroit.

Answer: New York Mets

The other teams did not exist in 1969. The 109 game-winning Baltimore Orioles could not stand in the Mets' way. The Mets won the series four games to one, while Donn Clendenon with his three home runs and .357 average took the MVP honors.

However, the Tigers had different intentions, defeating the Cubbies four games to three. Two of the three Chicago wins were by shutout.
8. Since the beginning of Major League baseball with the American and National Leagues, which of the following teams took over 40 seasons to make it to their first World Series?

Answer: Angels

The other teams made it to the World Series within their first four seasons. With the team's inception in 1961, the Angels only mustered three Division titles until their first World Series appearance in 2002. Angels' manager Mike Scioscia was only two years old in the Angels' first season in 1961. The Angels defeated the Giants, four games to three in the series.
9. Which Dodger pitcher broke a 62 year old record, by striking out 29 batters in the 1965 World Series?

Answer: Sandy Koufax

The others had not started their Major League careers yet in 1965. Sandy Koufax, in addition to his Triple Crown and Cy Young stellar season, struck out 29 Minnesota Twins. His 0.38 ERA also helped him win World Series MVP honors.
10. In which of the following seasons was there no World Series?

Answer: 1902

The World Series began in 1903 with Boston defeating Pittsburgh. The following season there was no World Series in 1904, or in 1994. For the remainder of the century, the World Series have taken place every year since then except for those. The 1919 series listed above saw the Black Sox scandal with the White Sox against the Cincinnati Reds.
