Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fill In The Blank (FITB) questions are permitted in the Sports category, but what options are required for a sportsman's name? I have used the fictitious Fred Smith as an example.

Answer: Fred Smith & Smith

This format is standard in all categories. The hint is to be adjusted to read 'Two words, or just surname'. FITB answers are not case-sensitive.
2. Which one of these four statements has all the correct spelling?

Answer: There is going to be a lot of trouble working out who's the winner.

'A lot' is two separate words, as in 'I have a lot of homework'. 'Their' is a possessive pronoun and 'they're' is a contraction of the words 'they are'. Similarly 'who's' means 'who is'.
3. What should every sentence begin with?

Answer: A capital letter

This is a very basic law in grammar. While it is more expedient to use lower-case, it makes a sentence harder to read.
4. If you are using a 'True/False' question, what correct options are required? For the sake of this question, presume that the answer is true.

Answer: T

Similarly, 'Yes' and 'No' answers require 'Y' or 'N' as alternative answers. The FunTrivia system will interpret the single-letter answer correctly.
5. Date dependent questions are where many new quiz writers have difficulties. If your question relates to the all-time record for goals scored in a career, which of the following is the most acceptable?

Answer: Who surpassed Fred Smith's all-time goal scoring record in 1999?

A quiz may be online in FunTrivia Quizzyland for many years, and an answer that is acceptable today may be wrong next year. Phrases like '..as at 2001..', ..currently..', '..the present..', '..last year..' do not move with the times, and will eventually be incorrect.
6. I have just started a quiz on the Miami Dolphins and went to www.miamidolphins.com. There I found a great paragraph on the team's performance in playoff series. Can I copy those words into my question?

Answer: Yes, but I must give credit to the site

Authors must use their own words; plagiarism is NOT allowed. The paragraph is to be in quotes, and the site name- 'Miami Dolphins.com'- must be included in the question.
7. In my quiz, my previous question was about Fred Smith who was drafted in 1999 to the Boston Odd Sox. In my next question, I wish to know what college he was drafted from. Which of these questions would be rejected by an editor?

Answer: What college did the player referred to in the previous question attend? (Multiple Choice)

Linked questions, ie, those that relate to another question, are not permitted in the Sports category. Each question should be able to stand alone.
8. Which of the following answers should start with a capital letter?

Answer: all of them

Players names, city, state and country names, trophy names are all proper nouns and must be capitalised.
9. WOULD THIS QUESTION BE REJECTED?

Answer: Yes

Typing in all capitals is the computer equivalent to shouting, and will be rejected immediately.
10. I have finally made it to the last question of my quiz, and am having trouble finding a grand finale. Is the following question permitted? 'Who is the greatest team in the NFL?'.

Answer: No

Opinions are acceptable in the Interesting Info fields, as long as they are not insulting or inflammatory, however, all questions and answers must be based in fact. Hopefully prospective quiz authors will take note of these common problems in their future quizzes.
