1. Which NFL team was the first to win five Super Bowls?

Answer: San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco won their 5th Super Bowl following the 1994 season defeating the San Diego Chargers. They also won following the 1981, 1984, 1989, and 1990 seasons. The Cowboys won their 5th Super Bowl one year later defeating Pittsburgh following the 1995 season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers won their 5th Super Bowl following the 2005 season by defeating the Seattle Seahawks. Detroit hosted San Francisco's first Super Bowl following the 1981 season, and Pittsburgh's fifth Super Bowl victory following the 2005 season.
2. Which country won the first World Cup?

Answer: Uruguay

In 1930, Uruguay hosted and won the first World Cup. They defeated Argentina 4-2 in the inaugural World Cup final. They also defeated Brazil in 1950 to win their second World Cup. Brazil, despite losing to Uruguay in 1950, had a bright future of World Cups in front of them.

They have now been to 6 other World Cup finals winning in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002. Brazil also lost in the 1998 final to host country France. Italy has won 4 World Cups those coming in 1934, 1938, 1982, and 2006. Argentina has won twice in 1978 and 1986.
3. Whose Major League Baseball record 44-game hit streak did Joe DiMaggio break?

Answer: Willie Keeler

Joe DiMaggio shattered "Wee" Willie Keeler's 44-year old MLB record with a 56-game hit streak in 1941, while playing for the New York Yankees. Keeler a member of the Baltimore Orioles during the 1897 season batted an astounding .424 and was voted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. Babe Ruth never even had a 30-game hitting streak despite batting .342 and pounding out 2,873 hits in his 22-year career. Pete Rose tied Keeler's mark with a 44-game hit streak of his own in 1978 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds.

Answer: Pat LaFontaine

Pat LaFontaine started his NHL career with the New York Islanders in 1983-84. He then played for Buffalo Sabres during the 1991-92 season before finishing his career with the New York Rangers in 1997-98. Of course all three teams were located in New York State. Chris Chelios was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens selected with the 40th overall pick in 1981. Chelios has also played for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings. Ed Olczyk was the 3rd overall pick selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1984 NHL entry draft. Olczyk was traded four times in his career while playing over 1,000 NHL games for six different teams. With the 4th overall selection in the 1984 NHL entry draft the Toronto Maple Leafs selected Al Iafrate. Iafrate was also a member of the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins before finishing his career with the San Jose Sharks. Both Olczyk and Iafrate retired following the 1999-2000 season. All four players were named to the 1984 U.S. Olympic team which finished in 7th place with a record of 2 wins, 2 losses, and 2 ties. On a side note, Chelios was the first to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup doing so as a member of the 2001-02 Red Wings.
5. Which NCAA Men's basketball team was the first to finish both the regular season and postseason undefeated?

Answer: Long Island University

In 1938-39 Long Island University was the first NCAA Men's basketball team to finish undefeated at 23-0. Long Island University finished their perfect season by defeating previously unbeaten Loyola of Chicago (21-0) in the NIT Championship game 44-32. Oregon won the first NCAA Men's basketball tournament in 1939 defeating Ohio State University 46-33. UCLA finished undefeated in 1972-73.

In 1975-76, Indiana University finished the season undefeated at 32-0 defeating the University of Michigan 86-68 in the NCAA championship game.
6. Which boxer finished his career a perfect 49-0?

Answer: Rocky Marciano

Rocky Marciano won the World Heavyweight title when he defeated Jersey Joe Walcott in 1952. During this fight, Marciano was knocked down for the first time in his career in the 1st round, yet still managed to knockout Walcott in the 13th round. Marciano would successfully defend his title 6 more times before retiring in 1955 a perfect 49-0. Muhammad Ali finished 56-5 and held numerous Heavyweight titles including the WBA, WBC, NABF and World. Joe Louis finished his career 69-3.

In one of his three losses, Louis was knocked out in the 8th round by Rocky Marciano in 1951, however neither man held a title at the time. Years before losing to Marciano, Joe Louis held the World Heavyweight title from 1937-1949. George Foreman made more money selling grills despite being the Heavyweight champion on more than one occasion.

He finished his boxing career 76-5.
7. In 1993, which NCAA Men's football program began play as a member of the Big 10 Conference?

Answer: Penn State Nittany Lions

Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) was admitted to the Big 10 Conference on June 4, 1990, however did not begin play until the 1993 season. Penn State was an independent team dating back to 1881, meaning they were not affiliated with any conference.

They won both the Big 10 Championship and the National Championship in 1994. Indiana has been a member of the Big 10 conference since 1900. During that span they won the Big 10 championship twice, once in 1945 and were co-champions along with Purdue and Minnesota in 1967.

The Baylor Bears have been a member of the Big 12 conference since 1996. They have won or shared 5 conference championships while being a member of the now defunct Southwest Conference from 1915-1995, the last outright championship coming in 1980. Since 1887, Notre Dame had never won a conference championship, simply because they have never played in a conference.

Their first National Championships came in 1919.

The World Golf Hall of Fame is located in St. Augustine, Florida. It houses both the men's and women's Halls of Fame inside. In case you didn't know Billie Jean King is a woman. John McEnroe and Jimmy Conners had many legendary battles in the 1980s, whereas Pete Sampras dominated the 1990s.
10. Which team won the first Arena Football League Championship or "Arena Bowl I" during the "demonstration" season of 1987?

Answer: Denver Dynamite

On August 1st, 1987, the Denver Dynamite were crowned the first Champions of the inaugural four team Arena Football League by defeating the Pittsburgh Gladiators 45-16. There would be no repeat for the Denver Dynamite franchise since they didn't play in the AFL the next year, but no worries they returned to action during the 1989-91 seasons.

The Pittsburgh franchise faired a little better ending operation in the Steel City after the 1990 season by moving and becoming the Tampa Bay Storm for the 1991 season.

The franchise won the Arena Bowl in their very first season in Tampa. They are the only franchise with a link back to the first season of the AFL. The Detroit Drive was the most successful early franchise of the AFL participating in six straight Arena Bowls, winning 4, during 1988-93.

In 1994, the franchise moved and became known as the Massachusetts Marauders. The San Antonio Force only played one season (1992) but managed to leave a legacy as the first team to be shutout in a game when they lost 50-0 to the Orlando Predators.
