Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During Jack's flashback to when he was on the plane, he was trying to comfort a nervous Rose, who was worried about the turbulence. What did Rose say her husband always told her about planes?

Answer: That planes want to be in the air

When the plane first hit turbulence, Jack saw Rose looking very worried. He told her that the turbulence was normal, and she replied that she knew that, but she just wasn't a good flier. She then mentioned her husband always said that planes want to be in the air. Her husband was in the bathroom at the time, and Jack told her that he would keep her company until he came back.
2. Which of the main cast members said this quote? "How does something like that happen?"

Answer: Charlie

Charlie said this after finding the pilot's mangled body in the trees. Jack, Kate and Charlie narrowly escaped the island beast after hiking to the cockpit, and later found the pilot's body. This line was the last line of the episode.
3. While discussing what to do with the dead people in the fuselage, Hurley spelled the word "bodies" correctly as he didn't want to say it in front of Walt.

Answer: False

Sayid, Boone, Shannon, Charlie, Michael, and Walt were sitting around and talking, when Hurley joined them, saying that something needed to be done about the bodies in the fuselage. However, he didn't want to say the word "bodies" in front of young Walt, so he spelled it out, but he spelled it "b-o-d-y-s"! Everyone looked confused, and Michael asked him if he was trying to spell "bodies", and Walt promptly spelled it correctly.
4. While Kate was sewing up Jack's wound, what type of operation did he say he performed during his first solo procedure in his residency?

Answer: Spinal surgery

While Kate sewed Jack's wound, she commented that he didn't seem afraid. Jack told her a story about his first solo procedure as a doctor, which was a spinal surgery on a 16-year old girl. After 13 hours, Jack was finishing up and he accidentally ripped open her dural sack and all of her nerves and spinal fluid spilled out. Jack almost panicked, but he only let his fear take over for five seconds; then he was fine and able to sew the girl back up. Kate said that she would have run if that had been her, but Jack said that he didn't think so, as she hadn't run when he asked her to sew his wound.
5. In the very first scene, where Jack woke up in the jungle, what was the first thing he saw?

Answer: Bamboo

Jack landed in the jungle from the crash. When he woke up, he saw bamboo stretching far into the sky. He also saw Walt's dog Vincent. Vincent nearly trampled Jack's face as he ran away! We later saw Vincent watching Jack, Kate, and Charlie as they were in search for the cockpit. Jack managed to get up and found chaos at the crash site on the beach, where he used his medical and leadership skills to help those in need. Later, he and Kate tended to his wound.
6. On their first night on the island, the crash survivors heard the terrifying island beast in the jungle. What did Walt think the island beast was?

Answer: Vincent

That night, the survivors heard some very strange noises in the jungle that got everyone's attention. Walt thought at first that it might be his dog Vincent, but Michael quickly said that it wasn't. They heard loud crashing noises and a creepy howling sound, and saw trees being jerked around. Scary!
7. On the first night, what did Boone try to give Shannon to eat?

Answer: Chocolate

Boone gave Shannon a chocolate bar while she was painting her toenails, but Shannon refused it. She said that people were coming to rescue them and that she would eat on the rescue boat. Boone tried to get her to realize that they might be there for a while, but Shannon stubbornly refused to listen, leaving Boone to eat the chocolate bar himself.
8. As Kate prepared to look for the cockpit with Jack, where did she get a pair of good hiking shoes?

Answer: A corpse

Jack told Kate that she'd need some better shoes if she wanted to go look for the cockpit. Kate therefore found a pair of hiking shoes on a dead body in the wreckage. While she was removing the shoes from the corpse, she saw Locke eating an orange and smiling at her.
9. Having discovered the missing cockpit, who broke the lock on the cockpit door?

Answer: Jack

Jack, Kate, and Charlie were the ones searching for the cockpit. They found it, but had to make an arduous climb to reach the door. The door was locked, and Jack used a fire extinguisher to break the lock. As soon as he did, the door opened and the body of one of the pilots flew out and spilled down the aisle. They found the other pilot inside and unconscious, but still alive.
10. Inside the cockpit, did the pilot put the transceiver down before he was attacked by the island beast?

Answer: Yes

The group found the transceiver, but the pilot said that it wasn't working. Just as Kate found Charlie in the bathroom, the island beast appeared again. As the pilot stood up to get a better look, he put the transceiver down. Suddenly the island beast grabbed him and, judging by the large amount of blood spattered about, killed him. Jack, Kate, and Charlie fled with the transceiver and eluded the monster.

They found the pilot's body soon afterwards. It was very messy! Stay tuned for Part 2 of this quiz!
