Answer: Jack Bauer

Day 1 began at midnight. Jack Bauer was at home with his family when he was called into work by CTU regional district manager, Richard Walsh. Bauer arrived at CTU and ordered his team to get information on Senator David Palmer and Palmer's staff as Bauer suspected the emergency had something to do with Palmer.

Answer: To involve Bauer in Senator David Palmer's assassination

An assassin had been sent to a breakfast rally in the place of a photographer, and Jack Bauer was supposed to take the assassin's rifle after Senator Palmer had been shot to make it appear that Bauer was the shooter. When the attempt failed, Bauer was later told to give Palmer a cell phone (which would explode, unbeknownst to Bauer). That attempt also failed when Bauer realized at the last minute that the phone was a bomb.

Answer: They had been involved in Operation Nightfall in Kosovo.

Senator David Palmer had been part of a Senate committee that had authorized Operation Nightfall, a mission in Kosovo to eliminate Balkan war criminal Victor Drazen. Jack Bauer had led the operation and although he was the only member of his team to survive, he successfully completed the mission, blowing up a building after he saw Drazen enter it.

Answer: Jamey Farrell

It appeared that Jamey Farrell had slashed her wrists with a broken coffee mug. However in the last hour of Day 1, it was discovered that she had actually been murdered by Nina Myers.

Mandy was the assassin who had obtained the photographer's ID before blowing up the plane in the second hour. She worked with Ira Gaines, however, she was never at CTU, and she didn't die during Day 1 as far as we knew. Janet York was Kim Bauer's friend who was hit by a car while trying to escape from Dan and Rick. She was killed at the hospital by Kevin Carroll who was posing as her dad, Alan York. Melanie was the girlfriend of Rick. The last time we saw her, she was in jail for a drug deal.

Answer: George Mason

George Mason was sent to CTU Los Angeles in the first hour to give Jack Bauer a disk with information on the threat against Senator David Palmer, but he wouldn't tell Bauer who the source was. Bauer shot him with a tranquilizer gun to give himself time to dig up some dirt on Mason. When Mason awoke, Bauer blackmailed him into providing the information. In the sixteenth hour, Mason returned as the acting director after Alberta Green had been sent back to division. Despite their issues earlier in the day, Mason and Bauer ended up cooperating with each other.

Ryan Chappell and Richard Walsh were both from CTU division headquarters. Richard Walsh was killed in the second hour when he obtained a keycard that could help identify the mole inside CTU. Aaron Pierce was a Secret Service agent assigned to Senator David Palmer.

Answer: The death of his sister Nicole's rapist

After Nicole Palmer had been raped, her rapist had allegedly committed suicide by jumping off of a building. However a reporter contacted Senator David Palmer and told him that Keith had been responsible for the man's death. Senator Palmer found out that his wife and one of his aides had conspired to cover-up Keith's involvement.

The issue became more complicated when George Ferragamo, Keith's therapist, was killed; he had been the one who leaked the information about Keith's involvement to the press.

Answer: To rescue his father, Victor Drazen

During Operation Nightfall, Jack Bauer had seen Victor Drazen walk into a building right before it blew up, so he believed that Drazen was dead. However, it turned out that it was a body double that had died; Drazen had been captured and was being held in Department of Defense detention facilities. On the anniversary of Operation Nightfall, Drazen was scheduled to be delivered to the facility in the wildlife preserve near Saugus, California.

His son, Andre Drazen, had planned to rescue his father that evening by having the electricity to the area shut off temporarily so that his team could attack the facility as his father was arriving.

Answer: Her husband left her.

Senator David Palmer had been angry with his wife when he found out that she had covered up Keith Palmer's involvement in the death of Nicole Palmer's rapist, and as the day went on, he came to trust her less and less. She knew about the threat to Keith's therapist, George Ferragamo, and hadn't told Senator Palmer; she had Palmer's speechwriter, Patty, try to seduce him so that Patty could pass on information to Sherry, and she let the press know that Palmer was still alive after an assassination attempt despite his desire to suppress the information until Jack Bauer had rescued his daughter, Kim.

At the end of the day, he met with her and told her he didn't want to see her again.

Answer: Nina Myers

It wasn't until the twenty-third hour that it was revealed that Nina Myers was the mole when she was heard speaking in Serbian on the phone to Andre Drazen. She told him that it was Yelena calling. Jack Bauer had suspected her earlier of working with the men who wanted to assassinate Senator Palmer because Richard Walsh had given Bauer a keycard with classified files on it, and the files had been loaded from Myers' computer.

After realizing that Myers had been with him on the day that the files were loaded, Bauer apologized to her, and she was the main person he trusted for the rest of the day. Bauer realized she was the mole when she told him that his daughter, Kim, was found dead, but Bauer found out that this wasn't true.

Answer: Teri Bauer

Teri Bauer had been rescued from her ordeal by Tony Almeida, who arrived at the Bauer's house just as an assassin was about to execute her in the nineteenth hour. She was safe at CTU for the remainder of the day, and after finding out that Jack and Kim were safe, she followed Nina Myers into a communications room to speak with her. Myers was on the phone, talking to her contact in German.

While Bauer was waiting for her to finish, she noticed blood on the floor. She started to leave the room, but Myers stopped her and tied her up. Myers' contact told her to make sure that no one could tie her to Germany, so Myers had to kill Bauer. Jack Bauer found her after Myers had been captured.
