The CIP firewall protected infrastructure within the country, including the national power grid, water treatment and distribution systems and transportation systems. Since Latham had worked on the project to install the firewall, the terrorists knew he could build a device to override it. He was forced to do so, and the terrorists tested it on the air traffic control system.

Answer: They discovered that Tony Almeida was alive and was working with terrorists.

According to Renee Walker, Tony Almeida had been whisked away by emergency personnel before Jack Bauer could verify that Almeida was dead. After he had been captured on film with the terrorists, she had confirmed that it wasn't Almeida's body that was buried in his grave. Jack Bauer didn't believe that Almeida would have turned against his country, but as Walker pointed out, he had every reason to do so, given his wife's death at the hands of former President Charles Logan and given the relatively light sentence that Logan received.

Answer: To check into the death of their son, Roger Taylor

Between "24: Redemption" and the beginning of Day 7, the Taylor's son, Roger, had reportedly committed suicide. His father, Henry Taylor, didn't believe that Roger would do so, and he suspected that someone else was responsible for Roger's death. Although Roger's death had been thoroughly investigated, Henry Taylor engaged a private investigator to look further into the matter.

Answer: Sangala

The fictional nation of Sangala was in the midst of a civil war instigated by General Benjamin Juma. Juma's troops were executing anyone suspected of supporting the ousted prime minister, Ule Matobo, and more than 200,000 people had been killed during the conflict.

Answer: He was shot through the window by a sniper.

Gabriel Schecter had arrived in Washington, D.C. just before the thefts of government equipment related to the firewall had started. Since Tony Almeida had worked with Jack Bauer back in the CTU days when Schecter was used as a supplier, Bauer thought that Schecter could lead him to Almeida.

After Bauer threatened to plunge a pen into his eye, Schecter agreed to tell what he knew, but just as he started to talk, he was shot by a sniper who was on a neighboring building.

Answer: They made two flights nearly collide on landing.

The terrorists took control of the air traffic control system and orchestrated a near collision at JFK airport by telling two flight crews to land simultaneously on intersecting runways. Tony Almeida had called air traffic control and told them to watch the landings. At the last minute, Almeida told one crew to pull up, avoiding the crash.

Answer: Ike Dubaku

Colonel Ike Dubaku had led General Benjamin Juma's operation in Sangala, and he was now undercover as a civilian in Washington, D.C. After running a test on the air traffic control systems, David Emerson, one of the terrorists, brought to Dubaku the firewall override device along with Michael Latham, the man who built it.

The private investigator that Henry Taylor had hired had told him that his son's girlfriend had deposited $400k into an offshore account shortly after his son's death. Henry Taylor wanted to confront her about the transaction. Secret Service agent Brian Gedge had tried unsuccessfully to dissuade Taylor from doing so, and while he was driving Taylor to the girlfriend's workplace, he called Ethan Kanin to let him know that Henry Taylor was investigating Roger Taylor's death.

Answer: He believed someone within the FBI was working with the terrorists.

Jack Bauer thought that the terrorists had managed to get a sniper into place a little too quickly, and he suspected that they were tipped off by someone in the FBI since only the FBI knew that Renee Walker and he would be visiting Gabriel Schecter. He noticed a man in an FBI jacket leaving the building where the sniper had been trapped, and Walker confirmed that the man wasn't an FBI agent, thus confirming Bauer's suspicions. Walker and he trailed the sniper without informing the FBI, and the sniper led them to Tony Almeida's location.

Answer: Renee Walker's boss, Larry Moss

Renee Walker had received a call from Larry Moss as Jack Bauer and she were following the sniper, but per Bauer's request, she didn't tell Moss where they were going. Bauer believed that there was a source working for the terrorists within the FBI and didn't want to provide any information. Moss asked FBI agent Janis Gold to locate Walker by triangulating on her radio, which Walker still had on.

He arrived just in time to see Bauer capture Tony Almeida.
