Question 2 of 20
2. This man had a finger in most dodgy deals, being the leader of a mafia-type organisation. He became engaged to two different ladies on the Square, and believed himself to be the father of the second son of one of them. His daughter Annie tried to take over his empire when he left for New Zealand. Who was this?

Answer: (both names, or just first name)
Question 3 of 20
3. Minty's greatest moment came when he opposed Andy Hunter in his marriage to Sam Mitchell, but this hardly gave him the status as a 'bad boy'. In what unpleasant guise did we first meet this man? Hint

Question 4 of 20
4. This yo-yo of a second-hand car salesman always seemed to bounce back, forever rising from the ashes as a colourful phoenix ready for his next deal. A smooth talker with a rough voice, he was also one for the ladies, but how many times did he actually lead a woman up the aisle and back again as Mrs Frank Butcher? Hint

Question 5 of 20
5. Nicknamed Tricky Dicky, Richard Cole was merely a smooth operator who often found himself out of his depth. A ladies' man, he had affairs with a number of women in the Square, but with which one did he go to Tenerife on a purely platonic holiday? Hint

Question 6 of 20
6. With just a few exceptions over the years, this original cast member was more sinned against than sinning. OK, he did try to kill Wicksy, and he often pulled a fast one to make a quick pound and to dispose of his competition, and he behaved abominably towards his third wife when he found out she had not been completely faithful, but he wasn't that bad - was he? Who was this?

Answer: (both names or first name only)
Question 7 of 20
7. Simon Wicks' claim to being a 'bad boy' stems from his treatment of Cindy Beale. Discovering she was pregnant, she agreed to marry Ian, but wanted to be with Wicksy. He abandoned her and his son after they left the Square, running away a second time to go to which country? Hint

Question 8 of 20
8. It could be said that Martin Fowler was an original cast member, as the very first episode saw his parents being told by the doctor that he was expected! Since that time he has been in trouble of one sort or another, from his young days right through to being a married man. What was the name of his partner in crime during his teenage years? Hint

Question 9 of 20
9. A chip off the old block, Ashley Cotton abandoned his mother to live with his father, coming to live in the Square with grandmother Dot. Under a sort of apprenticeship to Nick, his life of crime escalated as his father taught him more about theft and double-dealing. In an amusing Christmas story, they stole someone's Christmas decorations, food and even presents - whose Christmas did they take? Hint

Question 10 of 20
10. This man admitted to his schizophrenic son that he was unable to commit himself to anything or anyone, and left Walford for the last time. He was right. He was not a bad person by any means, but often came across that way because he could not content himself with a regular relationship, and forever looked over the fence at his neighbour's greener grass (usually his wife!). Who was this used-car salesman?

Answer: (first name or both names)
Question 11 of 20
11. Wilmott-Brown was a smooth operator who was one of the yuppie element introduced to Walford in the early years of the soap (we have not seen much evidence of such characters since the early 1990s). His moment of bad boy glory was raping Kathy Beale, and thus starting the break-up of her previously rock-solid marriage. What was this bad boy's Christian name? Hint

Question 12 of 20
12. Dan Sullivan's appearances in Walford were a roller-coaster of misunderstandings and double-dealing. After destroying the Jackson family by sleeping with mother and daughter at the same time, he was installed in one of the Square's institutions with the help of resident bad boy Phil Mitchell. Which business was this? Hint

Question 13 of 20
13. His greatest moment was when he killed Saskia Duncan in self defence, and then tried to cover it up. Had Steve Owen gone to the police immediately, it would have been seen as accidental, but his determination to hide the body and cover his tracks led to imprisonment for both himself and the person who witnessed the event. Who was this person? Hint

Question 14 of 20
14. He appeared in the very first episode in 1985 and was killed by the mob in 1988. A bit of an icon, Den Watts lived on in the memory of all, and his return to the Square in 2003 was explained by tales of hiding from the Firm who had a contract out on him. His 1988 death scene took place on the canal bank, when he was shot by a gun hidden in a bunch of which flower? Hint

Question 15 of 20
15. For a while it looked as if this bad boy was turning away from his gangster past, but that proved to be incorrect! Andy Hunter did not believe in getting his own hands dirty - preferring instead to call on a whole host of minions in order to fulfil his threats. One lady in particular was very aware that he could, and would, inflict much pain on a loved one, and gave in to his blackmail, even though it almost cost her marriage. Which Slater sister was this? Hint

Question 16 of 20
16. The elder of the Mitchell brothers was certainly one for the ladies, and his conquests included his sister-in-law and the fiancee of his main business rival, Steve Owen. He was married three times, and also lived with one lady for a long period of time. Which of the following was his common-law wife? Hint

Question 17 of 20
17. Nick Cotton's bad boy career started long before 1985, and he was in the very first episode of the soap in that year. Nick was responsible, in one form or another, for the deaths of three of the following characters. Which one of these did he not kill? Hint

Question 18 of 20
18. This man was placed at number three by the UKGold viewing public, even though he was only involved in a couple of shady deals; we first saw him at his mother's funeral, handcuffed to prison wardens. Later we witnessed the murder of gangland boss Jack Dalton, and this man's shared involvement in the frame-up of local bully-boy Phil Mitchell. Who was this?

Answer: (first name or both names)
Question 19 of 20
19. These brothers provided almost a decade of entertainment for viewers as Grant and Phil shared women, businesses and crime. Grant ended up in prison at one point, and while there Phil started an affair with his wife Sharon. How did Grant retaliate? Hint

Question 20 of 20
20. This man deserves top slot in the Bad Boys list. Trevor Morgan was obsessed with his wife, so much so that he would beat her up on a regular basis, usually because she had not behaved in a 'wifely fashion'. When Little Mo did retaliate and defended herself by hitting him with an iron, he had her brought before the law on an attempted murder charge. Did Little Mo go to prison after the court case?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Paul Trueman's arrival in the Square upset his mother far more than anyone else, as she considered him to be a bad lot. His brother, however, was sympathetic towards him because he knew something he believed his mother did not know. What was this supposed secret?

Answer: that Paul took the blame for a crime Anthony committed

It was only later that Anthony learned that his mother knew about the situation, and this made it even harder for him to understand her dislike of her other son. Long after her death, the men discovered that Paul was the son of a liaison with a family friend, and this helped them understand a little better.
2. This man had a finger in most dodgy deals, being the leader of a mafia-type organisation. He became engaged to two different ladies on the Square, and believed himself to be the father of the second son of one of them. His daughter Annie tried to take over his empire when he left for New Zealand. Who was this?

Answer: George Palmer

When George's daughter started a relationship with Gianni Di Marco neither knew that Gianni may have been her half-brother. Thankfully it transpired, after DNA tests, that such was not the case. It was soon after this that George left the Square for the second time (he left just after his engagement to Peggy Mitchell fell through), and some time after this his daughter Annie (who failed to continue her father's shady deals) also left.
3. Minty's greatest moment came when he opposed Andy Hunter in his marriage to Sam Mitchell, but this hardly gave him the status as a 'bad boy'. In what unpleasant guise did we first meet this man?

Answer: he was an overbearing landlord's manager

Minty first appeared in 2000, when he bullied first Janine, and then Laura and Pat as they lived in the bedsits in the building of which Minty was the manager. When Phil championed Laura in defiance of Ian, we learned that Phil and Minty had a past, and then this character became a regular sight, but his 'bad boy' image was played down as time went on, and he became the amiable 'good guy' in defence of his absent friend's sister.

Answer: three

Frank had been a part of Pat's life since they were teenagers, but as he was married already their affair was short-lived. Viewers met Frank some time after his wife's death, and along with him, his children, including Ricky and Janine. Married to Pat, they worked together with a Bed and Breakfast business, a taxi firm and used cars. Frank ran away when his businesses collapsed, but returned some years later to find Pat happy with Roy Evans.

He fell in love with and married Peggy Mitchell, but an affair with Pat destroyed that union and he vanished again.

A brief return showed that despite reports to the contrary, he was still alive and up to his old tricks.
5. Nicknamed Tricky Dicky, Richard Cole was merely a smooth operator who often found himself out of his depth. A ladies' man, he had affairs with a number of women in the Square, but with which one did he go to Tenerife on a purely platonic holiday?

Answer: Kathy Beale

Richard's deals were usually small-time, and connected with his job running the market, such as giving preference to those who paid him the most for special spots and so forth.

Answer: Ian Beale

Contrary to general opinion, I have always liked the character of Ian Beale. It seems to me that throughout the years he has had to deal with a great deal of opposition and while he has fought back on many occasions, he has also had a fair share of losses and humiliations. I think that the script-writers have been kind in that his storylines have generally been believable!
7. Simon Wicks' claim to being a 'bad boy' stems from his treatment of Cindy Beale. Discovering she was pregnant, she agreed to marry Ian, but wanted to be with Wicksy. He abandoned her and his son after they left the Square, running away a second time to go to which country?

Answer: New Zealand

Ian accepted Simon's son, Steven, as his own, counting him alongside his twins (Peter and Lucy) during the custody battles with his estranged wife in the late 1990s. When Steven learned that Ian was not his real father, he went to New Zealand with Pat (Wicksy's mother) in 2002 to meet him, and did not return.
8. It could be said that Martin Fowler was an original cast member, as the very first episode saw his parents being told by the doctor that he was expected! Since that time he has been in trouble of one sort or another, from his young days right through to being a married man. What was the name of his partner in crime during his teenage years?

Answer: Asif

Asif and Martin were the terror of Walford until Martin went to prison for manslaughter (he ran over Jamie who later died in hospital). Asif left the Square for a Scottish university after gaining three 'A' grades at A level. Martin settled down with Sonia and although he is a weak character, her strength is enough for them both. I hope.

Answer: the Evans family's

Roy, Pat, Barry and Natalie returned home to find their home stripped of all Christmas fare. They were invited to share Christmas with the Fowlers, and while they were there Dot, Nick and Ashley came around - and opened some of their presents - which of course were instantly recognised and the generational partners in crime were exposed!

Answer: David

David Wicks was Simon's older brother, Pat's son. Shortly after his arrival in the Square we learned that he was Bianca's father (a revelation made in order to prevent him starting a relationship with the young redhead), and things went downhill from there.

The highlight of his three years in Walford was assisting Cindy Beale in her flight with her two sons just after she had arranged to have her husband shot.

Answer: James

James Wilmott-Brown was sent to prison for this crime, and after his release hounded Kathy, under the delusion that they had a relationship. It was only after he attacked another woman that Kathy was able to relax, as he was sent back to prison again.

Answer: the pub

Phil sold Dan half the pub for a fiver, and then sat back and watched while his friend and his mother turned the Queen Vic into a battleground. Suddenly changing his mind, he turned against Dan and ousted him from Walford. Surprise, surprise, Dan came back to wreck revenge on his one-time friend.

Answer: Matthew Rose

A lesser character would have left the Square after this, especially as it was known that Matthew had nothing to do with the supposed murder, and he was convicted while Steve was freed. There followed a transition period while he wooed and won Melanie as his wife, and then his head-to-head with Phil Mitchell reached a peak when he tried to help Lisa escape with baby Louise and he was killed in the attempt.

Answer: daffodils

Den succeeded where others had failed, and got rid of Phil Mitchell; on his return he learned of Phil's strong-arm tactics from people all over the Square, and set him up on a robbery. Phil escaped from prison with Minty's help and is at large - perhaps to return and get his own back on this ageing gangster?

Answer: Kat Moon

Andy Hunter had taken Kat as far as the altar, but Alfie Moon snatched her away. Since then our reformed gangster was determined to pay them back, and when Alfie borrowed money from him he saw it as his opportunity to get even. He forced Kat to resume their old relationship for just one afternoon, and gave the video to her husband.
16. The elder of the Mitchell brothers was certainly one for the ladies, and his conquests included his sister-in-law and the fiancee of his main business rival, Steve Owen. He was married three times, and also lived with one lady for a long period of time. Which of the following was his common-law wife?

Answer: Lisa

In my list, Phil Mitchell would have been either number one or two, but he was voted in at number five. Before Grant left Walford he was the steadying influence of the two brothers, but seemed to take on Grant's instability and grow a king pin attitude which led to his being shot in a JR Ewing fashion - and well deserved it would have been from all four major suspects!
17. Nick Cotton's bad boy career started long before 1985, and he was in the very first episode of the soap in that year. Nick was responsible, in one form or another, for the deaths of three of the following characters. Which one of these did he not kill?

Answer: Andy O'Brien

Mother Dot was the target of most of Nick's evil ways, and survived death attempts, robberies, false declarations of religious conversion and general skulduggery! It was Nick's involvement with his son Ashley's death which finally broke the blood link and he has not been seen in the Square since. Watch this space!

Answer: Dennis

There has been a great furore over the relationship between Dennis and his adoptive sister, Sharon. Given that the two are not blood related, I cannot see the problem myself, but it took the country by storm.
19. These brothers provided almost a decade of entertainment for viewers as Grant and Phil shared women, businesses and crime. Grant ended up in prison at one point, and while there Phil started an affair with his wife Sharon. How did Grant retaliate?

Answer: he beat his brother so badly he ended up in hospital

Later Grant was to have an affair with Phil's wife, Kathy. In his well-remembered final storyline, Grant told his brother that he had been getting his own back, and then drove them both into the river. A few episodes later Grant appeared briefly, took his daughter Courtney and left Walford forever.

Answer: Yes

Because she had left him on the kitchen floor to seek assistance from her family, Little Mo considered herself to be guilty, even though the initial action was in self-defence. Because of this, she did not defend her actions in court and was sent down for the crime. Trevor was delighted.
