"Best/Worst" from "Soap Opera Digest": Part III Quiz

Answer: Nina Cortlandt

In the 1986 "Best/Worst" issue of "Soap Opera Digest", the show picked up a disapproving nod over the way they handled Nina's amnesia story. The editors felt this plot lagged and did a lot of damage to Nina's character by having her behave in a way she ordinarily would not. While they were pleased when Nina regained her memory, they felt the plot contained more negatives than positives.

Answer: Silver Kane

While "AMC" picked up many "Best" nods in the 1987 "Best/Worst" issue of "Soap Opera Digest", the one negative piece they got was on the story of Silver's hypnotism. The editors did not appreciate how much of a distraction the name "Noelle" became (Silver had believed her name at one point to be "Noelle").

They also did not find the story entertaining at all, plus were bored by Silver's character.

Answer: Skye Chandler

The editors of "Soap Opera Digest" in their 1988 "Best/Worst" issue gave "AMC" a thumbs down on the character of Skye in their "Most Obnoxious Character". They provided this jeer over how whiney Skye had become this year while being a fun love to hate villainess in 1987. While they praised Robin Christopher's acting, they still felt there was little to like overall about Skye in 1988.

Answer: Trevor Dillon and Natalie Marlowe

There was roughly an equal mix in the 1992 "Best/Worst" issue of "Soap Opera Digest" for "AMC" but one glaring bad they got was "Worst Wedding" in Trevor and Natalie. The editors hated the fact that fans had waited for a long time to see these two finally marry and for the ceremony to come off as lackluster.

They did not care for Natalie's dress as well as for how dull the overall ambiance came off.

Answer: Janet Green

There was one foul note "AMC" got in "Soap Opera Digest's" 1994 "Best/Worst" issue with the "Most Preposterous Plot" ribbon going to the story about Janet's reconstructive surgery. The editors did not care for the message "AMC" sent in saying that a convicted killer could go free if he/she agreed to go through plastic surgery.

They also felt that it seemed to go on for much longer than usual since fans had to see Janet's bandaged face for several weeks.

Answer: Noah Keefer and Julia Santos

The editors at "Soap Opera Digest" felt "AMC" fumbled on the Noah and Julia in Jamaica story that they gave them the "Most Wasted Location Shoot" dishonor. The show did not care for the supernatural arc involving Corinne's voodoo spells. They also hated the fact that Hayley and Mateo, not Noah and Julia, scored the major love scene on the Jamaican beaches.

Answer: Tanner Jordan

While "AMC" has had notable villains over the years, "Soap Opera Digest" felt Tanner Jordan was not one of them as he received the "Worst Villain" nod in the 1997 "Best/Worst" issue. The editors explained how every villain had some rooting value to them but Tanner had absolutely none.

They also disapproved of the writers' not giving a back story to explain why Tanner was a dastardly person.

Answer: Greenlee Smythe

Despite "AMC" having popular romances over the years, 1999 was not the best year for them since "Soap Opera Digest" suggested the Becca/Scott/Greenlee triangle as the year's worst in their "Best/Worst" issue. The editors were not impressed by either couple's chemistry and felt there was little that pushed the story long.

They also felt the plot moved way too slowly while they quickly lost interest.

In a rare twist of fate, "AMC" got both the "Best Secret" and "Worst Secret" claims in the 2000 "Best/Worst" issue of "Soap Opera Digest" and the "Worst Secret" involved Brooke finding out Eliot Freeman was the man who killed her daughter. The editors disapproved of how disgusting it was to have Brooke fall for a man who had reconstructive surgery and it happened to be the same guy who ran down her daughter while drunk.

While they had nice things to say about Julia Barr's (Brooke) acting, they also felt this story made dark marks over their hallmark social relevance tale in 1988 over Laura Cudahy's death.

Answer: Jamie Luner (Liza)

There was not much praise for "AMC" in the 2009 "Soap Opera Digest" issue on "Best/Worst" throughout the year and one major glare they received was "Worst Recast": Jamie Luner as Liza Colby. The editors did not necessarily have issues with Luner's portrayal but felt she was too young for the role. They also found her to not resemble Liza's previous portrayer, Marcy Walker, in any way.
