Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When we first meet Socrates Poole, he is very prim, proper, and a straight-down-to-business kind of a guy. Brisco tells him to loosen up and relax. By the end of the first episode, Socrates takes his advise. What does he do to show Brisco he's trying to loosen up?

Answer: Removes his tie

Brisco commends him for doing it, at which point Socrates also calls out that he is starting to make up nicknames for people and proceeds to call Brisco "Brisc." However, I don't remember him ever using that nickname again in future episodes.
2. Socrates has a strange way of keeping wrinkles out of his pants when he removes them at night. What is it?

Answer: Lays them under the mattress

We find this out in the episode "Brisco for the Defense" where, due to a mortician's convention being in town, he and Brisco have to room together. Brisco finds out that some of his other annoying habits are gargling, blowing his nose and snoring.
3. Brisco has a nickname for Socrates. What does he call him?

Answer: Soc

Socrates is named after the classic Greek philosopher, but Brisco has a hard time remembering his name when he first meets him. He calls him Aristotle (who happened to be born 15 years after the real Socrates died), Sophocles (an ancient Greek playwright), and Euripedes (another Greek playwright). Brisco blames this on failing Greek philosophy 2 years in a row at Harvard. Once he does learn his name, he makes up a nickname for him.
4. Socrates has a sister who is also a lawyer like himself. What is her name?

Answer: Iphigenia

Their mother liked to read Greek literature. Iphigenia was the daughter of Agamemnon, leader of the Greek forces at the battle of Troy.
5. Socrates, although being in the Wild West, never carried a gun. Did he ever shoot one?

Answer: Yes

Socrates proves he is a poor aim in the episode "Bounty Hunter's Convention" when he tries a round of target practice. It's a good thing his aim is off, too, because someone had tied Lord Bowler behind one of the targets!
6. Socrates travels to Reno in one episode. What form of gambling does he get addicted to?

Answer: Slots

Socrates is supposed to be watching the sheriffs that are after Dixie (Brisco's girlfriend) for robbing a stagecoach, but he gets obsessed with the slots instead. At the end of the episode, one of the "coming things" is Gambler's Anonymous!
7. In his line of work, Socrates gets some strange assignments. In one episode, he has to deal with some "iron horses". What is another animal that he has to deal with in a different episode?

Answer: Bull

Socrates has to care for a bull named "El Magnifico" who is a gift being sent to Madrid, California, from its sister city, Madrid, Spain. It is the King of Spain's bull, so the animal comes along with an liaison that expects the very best for the bull and is very hard to please.
8. Socrates doesn't have much luck as far as the ladies are concerned. Does he ever have an intimate relationship with anyone?

Answer: Yes

He has an intimate affair with (who else) his secretary. Unfortunately he finds out to late that she is working for the wrong side of the law. Later on, she breaks out of jail and becomes obsessed with him.
9. When Brisco and Bowler are on trial for treason against the United States army, Socrates is able to get them out of the charges.

Answer: False

Unfortunately, the army has too many inside conspirators on their side for him to get them out. They are sentenced to death and would have been killed before a firing squad if not for Professor Wickwire and his rubber bullets.
10. What is Socrates's job when he goes up in Professor Wickwire's "Lighter than Air" ship?

Answer: To pass gas

Socrates tells the group that he had tagged along to "pass gas" and Bowler asks him "Isn't that something you're supposed to do by yourself?" He didn't know at the time he was talking about the ship (a.k.a. Blimp).
