Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What were Josie and Her Pussycats in the cartoon of the same name?

Answer: Girl band

"Josie and Her Pussycats" started as a comic by Dan DeCarlo in 1963. In 1970 the animated series debuted. It lasted one season with 16 episodes. They were a touring all-girl band. Josie was the lead singer, songwriter, and guitar player, Valerie was on bass, and Melody was the drummer. They were not cats, but teenagers who dressed like cats when performing.
2. "Help! It's the _____!" What is it?

Answer: Hair Bear Bunch

"Help! It's the Hair Bear Bunch!" aired in 1971 and lasted one season with 16 episodes. They were three bears who lived in Wonderland Zoo, run by Mr. Peevly and Lionel Botch. They would escape and have adventures on their "invisible motorcycles" but always get back before they were missed.

The bears were Hair Bear (voiced by Daws Butler), who wore an Afro, Babi Bear (voiced by Paul Winchell), who was the level-headed one, and Square Bear (voiced by Bill Callaway), who was the dumb one.
3. The children from "The Flintstones" had their own spin-off series as teenagers. What were their names?

Answer: Pebbles Flintstone and Bamm-Bamm Rubble

"The Pebbles and Bamm Bamm Show" premiered in 1971 and ran for one season of 16 episodes. Pebbles was voiced by Sally Struthers (who played Gloria in "All in the Family"), and Bamm-Bamm was voiced by Jay North (title character in the series "Dennis the Menace").

In the series, they were still best friends but also dating each other. Incidentally, in 1993 they were married in the animated movie "I Yabba Dabba Do".
4. "Conjunction Junction, what's your function?" could be heard on what series?

Answer: Schoolhouse Rock

"Schoolhouse Rock" was an interstitial programming series of about three minutes an episode that ran from 1973-1984 in the original series. It was an educational series that taught grammar, science, economics, history, math, and American civics all through catchy tunes. One of the most popular tunes was "I'm Just A Bill", in a 1976 episode in which "Bill" (an actual bill trying to get passed) sings about how a bill becomes a law.

Some of the lyrics are: "I'm just a bill. Yes, I'm only a bill. And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill."
5. What is the alter-ego of Pernod "Penry" Pooch?

Answer: Hong Kong Phooey

"Hong Kong Phooey" first aired in 1974 for one season of 16 episodes. Penry became Hong Kong Phooey by jumping in a filing cabinet. Inevitably he would always get stuck. His pet cat Spot always came to the rescue. He drove the "Phooeymobile," which could be a boat, plane, or telephone booth as the need arose. Scatman Crothers voiced him. He fought crime using karate.
6. In1975 an animated series about a primate premiered. What was the name of the primate?

Answer: Grape Ape

"The Grape Ape Show" was about a 40-foot childlike gorilla. He always showed agreement by saying "Grape Ape, Grape Ape" after someone said something. When he sneezed because he was so huge, it was like a hurricane had hit. And when he would cry, the area flooded. It lasted one season of 16 episodes.
7. Who was the friend of the Teen Angels?

Answer: Captain Caveman

"Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels" ran originally from 1977 to 1980. The Teen Angels solved mysteries with Captain Caveman. It was a parody of "Charlie's Angels", which ran from 1976-1982. Captain Caveman would yell, "CAPTAIN CAAAAAVEMAAAANNNN!" before fighting. The Teen Angels were Dee Dee Skyes (the smart one), Brenda Chance (the scared one), and Taffy Dare (the ditzy one).
8. This show had Scooby's nephew in a spin-off of the original "Scooby-Doo Where Are You?" What was his nephew's name?

Answer: Scrappy-Doo

"Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo" ran for one season of 16 episodes starting in 1979. It was the last Hanna-Barbera outside of the prime-time specials to use a laugh track. The three main characters were Scooby, Scrappy, and Shaggy. Fred, Daphne, and Velma were still on the cartoon but not the main characters.
9. In 1975 "The Tom and Jerry Show" came out. Which one was the mouse?

Answer: Jerry

I used to have difficulty remembering, but then I remembered a tomcat is a male domesticated cat. Therefore if Tom is the cat, Jerry must be the mouse. This show ran for five seasons. In each episode, Tom was trying to catch Jerry. Occasionally, however, the two worked together.
10. In "Schoolhouse Rock", who "was"?

Answer: Mr. Morton

"The Tale of Mr. Morton" talks about subject and predicate. One of the lines says, "Mr. Morton was." "Mr. Morton is the subject of the sentence, and the predicate is what he does." This was part of the Grammar Rock. Jack Sheldon sang it.
