He is the only actor to receive 2 Oscars for the same role, Best Supporting Actor and an honorary Oscar 'For bringing hope and courage to his fellow veterans through his appearance in "The Best Years of Our Lives"'. He was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
