Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Robert Baratheon's nickname?

Answer: Usurper

As Robert Baratheon did not inherit his title, but got it by overthrowing the Targaryen dynasty, supporters of the 'rightful' king, Viserys Targaryen, call Robert the Usurper. Robert shows that he is aware that his subjects call him this during a dialogue with Ned Stark, as he is planning to assassinate Daenerys Targaryen once he discovers she is with child.
2. What is the name of Robert's youngest brother?

Answer: Renly

Renly Baratheon sits on the Council but is not thought of well by his ruling brother. In season 1, it is unknown what his other brother, Stannis, thinks of him, but Renly does make it clear that there is no fraternal love shared between the three brothers.
3. Why is the Knight of the Flowers significant to the Baratheon family?

Answer: He is Renly Baratheon's secret lover

Renly Baratheon is romantically linked with Ser Loras Tyrell, the handsome Knight of the Flowers. Loras Tyrell also catches the eye of Sansa Stark as an attractive youth who fulfills her idea of a heroic knight in shining armour.
4. Robert Baratheon famously killed Rhaegar Targaryen. His motivation for doing so was to avenge _____ Stark.

Answer: Lyanna

Lyanna was Ned Stark's sister and Robert's fiancee. The backstory to her demise was that she ran away or was kidnapped - we still don't know which - by Rhaegar, for love. She was pursued by her brother and fiance, but on arrival, they found her dying and her last words to Ned were, "Promise me, Ned". It was later revealed what her words meant.
5. The Hand of the King, Jon Arryn, on his deathbed said "the seed is strong". What discovery caused him to leave this clue to the next Hand of the King?

Answer: None of the Baratheon children are actually Baratheons

Through reading lists of the descendants of all the major houses in Westeros, Arryn found that all Baratheons had brown hair, so Robert's so called children having blonde hair and Lannister features proved to the Hand of the King that Robert could not be their father.

This made none of Cersei and her twin brother, Jaime Lannister's three children illegitimate and not in line to the Iron Throne, which is why Cersei killed him, so that Joffrey would be able to ascend the throne without question after Robert died.
6. Robert Baratheon and his queen, Cersei, have a fond and affectionate relationship.

Answer: False

Ever since Robert, drunk on their wedding night, said Lyanna's name instead of Cersei's when she did love him, their relationship has been tense and full of deceit. All of their children are in fact the offspring of Cersei and her twin brother, Jaime Lannister. The children, however, do not know this and Cersei and Jaime hide the fact from Robert as well.
7. Which of the Stark family dire-wolves does Robert order to be executed at Cersei's behest?

Answer: Lady

After Joffrey is wounded by Arya Stark's dire-wolf, Nymeria, Arya realises that her wolf's life will be taken so she lets her go. Hence, the wolf culpable of injuring the heir to the throne is not present to be executed, so Cersei makes the point that there is another dire-wolf at hand, Sansa's. Lady is put to death in Nymeria's place. Ned, in his belief that whoever orders an execution should be the one to perform it, killed his daughter's pet himself.
8. Who gives Robert the drugged wine that causes his death?

Answer: Lancel Lannister

Lancel is Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion's cousin. So that his cousin once removed (Joffrey Baratheon) can ascend the throne before Robert is made aware that he is not Joffrey's father, on Cersei's orders, he offers the king a drugged skin of wine on a hunting expedition. This renders Robert disorientated so that he loses aim and concentration enabling the boar to fatally wound him.
9. After Robert dies, much of kingdom comes to suspect that Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen are in fact the children of Cersei and Jaime.

Answer: True

After Robert dies, Ned Stark does his best to ensure the Lannister family do not seize the kingdom without claim, seeing as he knows none of the children are Baratheons. He goes to Renly Baratheon and offers to support him and help him to take the Iron Throne, despite the fact that Renly is not Robert's true heir either.
10. Robert Baratheon's life philosophy holds which things as the most important in life?

Answer: Alcohol, Sex and Hunting

Robert in his reign relied heavily upon his two Hands of the King, Jon Arryn and Ned Stark because he was content to drink away his time as king. He attained the crown but then shirked all responsibility to the kingdom that it came with. During Season I, it becomes apparent that because Robert is so unfaithful to his wife, he has fathered countless illegitimate children and at the feast in Winterfell, the wives of the king and Ned Stark view his lechery with disapproval. Hunting was his final flaw, if he didn't hunt so much, he would not have died.
