Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sylar, the villain for the first season of the show, picked his name off the front of a watch. What was his given name before picking up his nom-de-plum?

Answer: Gabriel Gray

Gabriel Gray was the only option that wasn't a character from Marvel Comics.

Sylar had been a lonely watchmaker and repairman before he discovered his abilities. His special ability was to be able to see how things worked. He manipulated that into looking at the brains of other special people in order to see how their abilities worked.

He had to kill them in the process.
2. In episode 12 Hiro discovered his "sacred object", which he believed would help him control his powers. What was the object?

Answer: A Samurai sword

Hiro and his traveling partner Ando saw a scene in the comic book with Hiro holding a sword up to a dinosaur.

Unsure of what it meant, the pair went to a museum where they saw a sword with the same hilt as in the book.

Hiro grabbed the sword and ran into the next room, where he stood face-to-face with a replica T-Rex.
3. Following the admission that he "made up" allegations about Sylar being hidden in a paper factory, Matt Parkman was suspended from the police department for how long?

Answer: 6 months

This was the second time in the first 13 episodes that Parkman was suspended. The first time he was suspended for punching a superior officer after he had heard the other man's thoughts about sleeping with Parkman's wife.

This time, unable to tell his superiors that he could read people's minds he claimed he had made up his "hunch" to search the warehouse. When nothing was found in the warehouse he was reprimanded with the suspension.
4. Which newly introduced character taught Peter how to harness and control his abilities during the 14th episode?

Answer: Claude Rains

Christopher Eccleston was the first actor to portray the Doctor when "Doctor Who" was rebooted after several years being on hiatus.

Eccleston was the 9th actor to play the character of the Doctor on the BBC show and played Rains on "Heroes".

Rains had the power of invisibility. He had been dealing with his enhanced abilities for more than 15 years at the start of the first season of this series.

The other three options were characters not introduced until the second season of the show.
5. In the 15th episode the viewers discovered that Claire was actually the biological daughter of which other main character?

Answer: Nathan Petrelli

Clair was the adopted daughter of Noah Bennett, and had earlier in the season been introduced to fake "bio" parents.

She kept looking after she discovered that Noah had been lying to her most of her life.

Eventually she found her mother, who had been thought dead. The mother then called her baby's father at the end of the 14th episode. When the next episode opened the man at the other end of the phone was revealed to be none other than the Congressional candidate who was two weeks away from his election.
6. Syler, while disguised, traveled with Hiro and met other special people. He did it as a cover to meet and later murder them to steal their powers.

Answer: False

Syler actually traveled with Mohinder, but the rest is true.
Mohinder had never actually met Syler, so when he did meet up with him, Syler was able to convince him he was actually the man that Mohinder was there to see.

Also in episode 16, Marvel Comics legendary creator Stan Lee made a cameo as a bus driver.
7. In episode 17 Ted Sprague, and what other character, held the Bennett family hostage in their home?

Answer: Matt Parkman

Parkman and Sprague were planning on kidnapping Noah Bennett at the paper factory after raiding his house for clues as to who he really was.

That plan changed when the family arrived home early, so instead they keep the entire family hostage while forcing Bennett to reveal his secrets to everyone in his family as well as the two enhanced people.
8. After Noah was forced to make Claire run away from the family, how did he hide his involvement?

Answer: The Haitian erased his memory and shot him

In episode 17 and 18 viewers found out that Claire was given to Noah as an assignment, not just to be his adopted daughter.

Over the 14 years he had her, he obviously became attached. When it came time to give her back to the company he couldn't turn her over, and instead helped her to run for her life.

The Haitian shot him in the stomach and erased his memories of Noah's involvement in her escape.
9. In the 19th episode the viewers finally saw the power that Charles Linderman had. What was his power?

Answer: Instantly heal the wounded

Linderman was deeply tied into the events of the first season. Prior to this episode he was talked about much more than seen.

He was the mastermind behind the explosion in New York, but felt it was for the betterment of mankind. He felt healing people one at a time was wrong, and wanted to force an event to cause cataclysmic changes the world over. Healing the human race along the way.
10. Hiro and Ando flashed forward 10 years into the future and discovered that in that future, the heroes hadn't saved the cheerleader, and they were now considered terrorists.

Answer: False

It's all true except for how far into the future the duo jumped. The title of the episode is "5 Years Gone".

In the episode all of the heroes have either gone into hiding or were working for the government to track down the other people with special abilities.
