Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first we see of Jack, he is rescuing the niece of the U.S. President. Who is President at this time?

Answer: Thomas Jefferson

In this first episode, President Jefferson is none too pleased with Jack's romantic interest in his niece, and threatens to have George Washington "chop off his cherry tree."
2. Shortly after Jack's arriving in Pulau-Pulau, a small child runs into him, dropping a doll of a local folk hero. What is the name of this hero?

Answer: the Daring Dragoon

Jack will later assume the Dragoon's identity so he can fight for truth, justice, and Nielsen ratings.
3. Jack then meets Emilia Rothschild, a British spy who serves as his contact and superior. At Emilia's home, Jack is led to Emilia's secret laboratory. How is her lab hidden?

Answer: Behind the fireplace

Through an ingenious system of mirrors and candles, the fireplace appears to be in use, discouraging people from wandering through it.
4. Jack is next introduced to Governor Croque, the French administrator of the island. The Governor is admiring a portrait of himself and his brother. Who is this historical figure that (in the series) is the Governor's brother?

Answer: Napoleon Bonaparte

Later in the series, Napoleon is played by Verne Troyer, who is perhaps best known as "Mini-Me" in the Austin Powers movies.
5. While Jack and Emilia are chatting with the Governor, the Captain of the Guard enters the room. What is this French soldier's name?

Answer: Brogard

Brogard's name is not actually mentioned in the pilot episode (though Jack does call him "Richelieu" at one point). It is given in the end credits, though.
6. At this point, Jack excuses himself so he can snoop around the Governor's mansion and find some secret papers. What excuse does he use?

Answer: He has to go to the bathroom.

The following dialogue exchange takes place between Jack and Croque:

Jack: Where do you keep your porcelain throne around here?
Croque: This mansion has a hundred bathrooms, Monsieur Stiles.
Jack: Hehehe... you must get a lot of reading done.
7. Jack then sneaks into Croque's study and searches the desk. What distracts him from his mission?

Answer: A deck of cards with naughty pictures

He also swipes a cigar from the Governor's humidor while he's there. He doesn't find the papers he was looking for, though.
8. Emilia finds Jack just moments before the Captain and his men do. How does Jack manage to avoid capture?

Answer: He disguises himself with drapes and Emilia's undergarments.

With a mask cut from the undergarments and one of the drapes as a cape, Jack pretends to hold Emilia hostage at swordpoint... and the Daring Dragoon lives again!
9. Emilia is very upset at Jack for his actions, and relieves him of duty. She still has to get the papers though, which they figure must already be on a French ship. How does she get on board the ship?

Answer: Using a diving helmet, she climbs on board from underneath.

I suspect that the almost-bikini Emilia wore while doing this was not the common swimming attire for proper English ladies of the early 19th century. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.
10. Emilia switches the papers and a disguised Jack swings into action to cause a distraction so she can escape (which ends up cementing their friendship and earning Jack his job back). Where do the orders Emilia planted send the ship?

Answer: The South Pole

The ship, and the soldiers on board, will be spending a six-month cruise before reaching port "somewhere off the South Pole". I hope they packed their long underwear!
