Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first restaurant visited for season 3, which premiered in the US in January 2010, was the Hot Potato Cafe. Where was it located?

Answer: Philadelphia

The Hot Potato Cafe was run by three sisters and the head chief was their uninterested 21-year-old niece. The restaurant took a hit after a bad review with the headline "Spuddy Hell". Despite a new favorable review by the same critic, the Hot Potato Cafe closed in August 2010.
2. During this season, Gordon revisited a number of restaurants. How many did he revisit?

Answer: Five

On a first revisit, Ramsay went back to Sante La Brea and Giuseppi's. The owner of Sante La Brea had handed the business to his sons. Giuseppi's was successful for a short time, but the bad economy in Michigan forced the family to shut its doors.

A second revisit episode saw the progress of the Handlebar, Casa Roma, and the Black Pearl. The Handlebar later closed, Casa Roma thrived with a new head chef, and the Black Pearl closed four days after the episode aired. Casa Roma was filmed for season 2, but held over until the third.
3. One Japanese restaurant that Gordon visited was actually closed before the episode aired.

Answer: False

The Japanese restaurant was Sushi-Ko of Thousand Oaks, California, which was tearing a family apart and didn't have a working refrigerator. Gordon tried a "sushi pizza" in a place he described as a "Japanese health hazard". The episode aired in May 2010 and the restaurant lost its lease in August.
4. What kind of food did Fleming, in Miami, Florida, serve?

Answer: Danish

Fleming was a place basically stuck in time. The owners were not Danish and the chef was Cuban. Gordon got served bland food and tough duck. During dinner service, just about every dish was sent back and Gordon saw cooked duck in the same pan as raw duck, causing him to shut down service. During another service, Gordon saw carrots in a Caesar salad.
5. Occasionally, Gordon likes something during his initial visits. It happened at Bazzini in Ridgewood, New Jersey. What did he like?

Answer: Carrot cake

The pastry chef made good desserts, but Gordon didn't like anything else, especially the hard chicken, disgusting risotto, bland tilapia, and dry pasta. During a service, Gordon noticed that food took a long time to get out and sat on the pass for 15 minutes. On a future revisit, Bazzini was closed down.
6. What city in New York was home to Mojito, known for a former couple that constantly feuded?

Answer: Brooklyn

Mojito was a Cuban restaurant whose head chef got into shouting matches with the hostess. Gordon was disappointed with the bad decor, cold soup, salty black beans, and undercooked tilapia. Unlike a number of restaurants featured on "Kitchen Nightmares", Mojito was still open months after a future revisit.

In February 2011, Oscar-nominated actor Casey Affleck, brother of Ben Affleck, visited twice in one week.
7. Gordon stopped service at Lido di Manhattan Beach once he saw the large amount of dust in the kitchen.

Answer: True

Lido was run by a business school graduate from Manhattan Beach, California. Gordon wasn't impressed with raw and crunchy eggplant, tuna that wasn't fresh, and frozen tortellini. Lido also had a problem with an antiquated ordering system. During a Thursday service, Gordon found food that wasn't fresh or cooked to order. Shortly after, Gordon forced the kitchen to shut down and clean up after he found the dust.
8. Gordon visited the man he considered one of the most stubborn chefs he ever saw in Lighthouse Point, Florida, home of Le Bistro. During one service's notoriously long waits, Ramsay visited a nearby restaurant on the strip. What kind of restaurant did he visit?

Answer: Seafood

Gordon visited a seafood restaurant and got his entree within ten minutes, instead of the hour it took at Le Bistro. Gordon walked in on a cooking class and asked the chef to cook his best. The result was a duck that nearly broke Gordon's tooth and rubbery lamb curry rolls. The head chef also fought with his staff and refused to recook dishes that were sent back.
9. Newbury Park, California had Mama Rita's, a Mexican restaurant that didn't impress Gordon. Which of these dishes did Gordon NOT try at Mama Rita's?

Answer: Taquito

The owner of Mama Rita's was a former caterer who cooked food in mass quantities and kept it frozen for months before serving. During service, the food came out very quickly. Gordon was not satisfied with any of the food, as everything tasted dry. A waiter actually told him what dishes not to order, including taquitos. A visit from former customers caused the owner to change.
10. What Florida city was home to Anna Vincenzo's?

Answer: Boca Raton

Anna Vincenzo's was home to a tyrannical owner and New York transplant whose business was open ten years. Gordon was shocked by the large menu featuring over 180 dishes, but disappointed with the overcooked salmon, watery snapper and doughy pizza. During a service, the head chef nearly closed the service.

A pizza-making contest featuring Florida sports personalities helped revive the restaurant.
