Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As the episode opens, the head of a competing advertising agency approaches Don Draper and offers him a lucrative position. Where does this encounter take place?

Answer: Theater

Jim Hobart flatters Don's past ad campaigns and inquires as to his interest in making an upward move in the professional world. Jim entices Don by saying, "If you were with me at McCann, you'd have over 500 people at your disposal. We can get a lot of things done."
2. Who does the head of a rival ad agency think Betty Draper resembles?

Answer: Grace Kelly

Although Betty is very Grace Kelly-ish, it soon becomes apparent that Jim Hobart is only using Betty to sway Don to leave Sterling Cooper.
3. With what potentially dangerous toy does Betty allow her children to play?

Answer: BB gun

Toy safety advocates did not exist in the early 1960s. As Betty cleaned up after her kids, she picks up an air rifle as innocently as she did other playthings.
4. To what did Betty Draper's mother compare her modeling career?

Answer: Prostitution

Betty's shrink, Dr. Wayne, strikes a nerve when he observes that Betty may still bear anger against her late mother. Betty defends her saying, "She wanted me to be beautiful so I could find a man. There's nothing wrong with that."
5. What is remarkable about a film clip of Jackie Kennedy that the Mad Men view in a conference room?

Answer: She speaks Spanish

The Mad Men are planning a strategy for the Richard Nixon presidential campaign and are impressed with Mrs. Kennedy's foreign language abilities. Salvatore has the opinion that women will not like Jackie. "It's like their better-looking sister married a handsome Senator and now she's going to live in the White House? I'm practically jealous."
6. What gift does Jim Hobart, the head of a rival ad agency, send to Don Draper's office?

Answer: Golf clubs

Roger Sterling delivers the expensive gift to Don's office and reminds him of the Sterling Cooper bonus that he just received. "It was designed as a kind of armor against men like Jim Hobart."
7. What threat does a Draper neighbor make toward them?

Answer: Shoot their dog

While the Draper children are playing with their dog Polly in their back yard, their neighbor, Ross, lets a few of his pet pigeons out of their cage. Polly grabs a low flying bird and Ross quickly frees it, alive but injured, from the dog's mouth. He growls at the young children, "I see that dog in my yard again, I'm going to shoot it."
8. For what product does Betty model?

Answer: Coca Cola

After receiving a phone call at home advising her that she's the new Coca-Cola girl, Betty is feeling sure and proud of herself, and, unzipping her dress, seduces her genuinely happy husband.
9. Which two Mad Men get into a fistfight?

Answer: Pete and Ken

Pete has trouble hiding his affection for Peggy and when Ken comments, "They call a girl like her a lobster, all the meat's in the tail," the two men fall to the ground fighting as Don and Roger leave the room without comment.
10. The episode closes with Betty seeing a flock of her neighbor's pigeons fly past her kitchen window. What does she do?

Answer: Shoot at them

A sobbing Sally had awakened Betty over a bad dream that their neighbor Ross was going to kill their dog. This was Betty's first notice that their neighbor has threatened her children. After a flock of Ross' pigeon fly past the window, Betty borrows her kids' BB gun and repeatedly shoots at the birds.
