Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As with the previous season, home cooks faced off in head-to-head battles for their white aprons. How many made it through the auditions?

Answer: Twenty

This season, a prospective Top 40 was whittled down to a more sensible Top 20 after a series of head-to-head battles for white aprons with each contestant facing off against one more more others cooking the same hero ingredients and fighting to come out on top.

This season, unlike the previous, the dishes were judged solely by Gordon and Christina (due to Graham's departure) and there were no do-overs; the twenty who were culled from the initial forty didn't have a chance to claim a last couple of aprons.
2. This season featured a series of different guest judges. Which one appeared for the most challenges?

Answer: Edward Lee

Edward Lee shared the distinction with Kevin Sbraga as both of them visited the MasterChef Kitchen for four consecutive episodes (and, thus, eight different challenges) whereas all other guest judges showed for two or three episodes. Edward Lee was the judge who stretched across the middle of the competition, appearing in episodes eight through eleven to bring forth his expertise.

Other judges featured in the third position this season included Wolfgang Puck, Daniel Boulud, and Richard Blais
3. The first Team Challenge of the season saw the chefs cooking at the wedding of what sixth season contestant?

Answer: Nick Nappi

After bringing the numbers down to eighteen over the course of the season's first main-competition episode, the contestants were brought to a beautiful wedding venue and expected to split into two teams of nine to cook the appetizers and main course for season 6's third runner-up, Nick Nappi, and his bride-to-be. During this challenge, teams first needed to create and cook a scallop dish to start and then bring forth their best rack of lamb.

The win went to Terry's Red Team while the remaining contestants headed straight back to the kitchen to face the possibility of elimination-- no subsequent Pressure Test.

They sent home Barbara.
4. As a 'Skills Test' in Episode 6, the contestants had to cook which of these items to perfection based on a masterclass conducted by Gordon Ramsay?

Answer: Lobster

In a shake-up to the general flow of challenges on the show, the chefs faced a new 'Skill Test' at the start of Episode 6 in which the Top 16 needed to properly kill, cook, and display a lobster, collecting as much meat as possible from the creature. The judges then sent all capable cooks to safety while pushing the remaining five into another challenge using their harvested lobster meat; they had to recreate a lobster tortellini dish created by Gordon himself. Lisa-Ann was unable to create the dish to the satisfaction of the judges and she was sent home in 16th place.
5. Which of these items was not the focus of a Pressure Test in this season?

Answer: Shrimp

In an effort to keep contestants on their toes, there were more shake-ups to the general testing formula this season with less Pressure Tests featured throughout. The first Pressure Test seen this season was in Episode 7, during which participants needed to butcher a chicken and then properly fry it for the judges.

In the subsequent episode, participants had to make a three-layer birthday cake from scratch. Later tests included chocolate desserts and pork dishes. In nineteen episodes this season, only four featured Pressure Tests.
6. Which contestant was disqualified from the competition?

Answer: Andrea

In the season's tenth episode, the top eleven chefs were brought to a farm to cook farm-fresh ingredients for one hundred and one farmers in a Team Challenge. This led the losing team of six (minus one, as it turned out) into a high-stakes Pressure Test involving made-from-scratch sausages served in a bun. Though Andrea made the best dish brought in front of the judges (and Diamond served a raw chicken asiago sausage), she reached the front table three seconds past the deadline and, due to this infringement of the rules, she was eliminated from the competition in eleventh place, one of the few disqualifications in the show as a whole.
7. Three Skill Tests waited for the Top 8, one after another, and each one involved which key ingredient?

Answer: Potato

The Top 8 faced off in a series of Pressure-Test-Style shows of technique in Episode 13. To begin, all eight needed to make perfect french fries, and from the eight, four were sent to immediate safety. In the next round, the four continuing competitors needed to make the perfect pot of mashed potatoes for the judges to taste. From this, two were sent to safety while the bottom two went head-to-head making potato gnocchi in a sage butter sauce. From this, Katie edged Eric out of the competition, leaving seven.
8. Instead of the general 'restaurant takeover', the Top 6 competed in a pop-up restaurant kitchen themed around which of these?

Answer: Roaring '20s

While most seasons of the show feature the top chefs heading to a five-star restaurant kitchen to cook for unsuspecting diners (and at great scrutiny with Gordon expediting), this season of "MasterChef" brought the Top 6 to a unique space, the site of what would be a Roaring '20s (think Gatsby-esque) party.

There, they did much of the same, working in two teams to send complex dishes out to patrons for judging. David's Blue Team won the challenge, sending Katie's Red Team to a chocolate-themed Pressure Test (from which she was sent home).
9. This season was the first to feature a finale containing how many competing home cooks?

Answer: Three

Although all previous seasons saw two-person finales, this season changed things when, in Episode 17, both Shaun and Brandi were sent to the balcony and told they would be advancing to the finale without facing one last Pressure Test. This meant that the final spot (of three-- surprise!) would go to either David or Tanorria based on their cooking of three complex pork dishes put forth by the judges. David won the spot with two good dishes to Tanorria's one.
10. Which contestant won "MasterChef" season seven?

Answer: Shaun

The three finalists headed back to their hometowns for a week after the main competition to build their menus back where it all began (Kentucky for Brandi and Vegas for both David and Shaun). After visiting all of them, everyone returned to the MasterChef Kitchen to cook an appetizer, entree, and dessert to be judged by Gordon and Christina and special guests Wolfgang Puck and Daniel Boloud.

The trio had sixty minutes to make each dish and all three dishes needed to have cohesion and flow as a full meal.

The judges ultimately awarded Shaun with the grand prize, giving him $250,000, the cookbook deal, the trophy, and a spot cooking on the MasterChef cruise.
