Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many home cooks received white aprons in this season?

Answer: Twenty

For this celebratory tenth season of "MasterChef", Gordon, Aaron, and Joe brought numerous chefs into the MasterChef Kitchen with the intent to bring twenty of them into the competition with white aprons. With forty-five minutes to make a signature dish, the home cooks had to get a unanimous vote from all three judges to make it through to the next round.

There was a catch, however, as each judge could hand off a battle pass to give one home cook (each) a final shot for the twentieth apron. Said apron went to Micah, who Gordon supported in the audition to give the second chance.
2. Which of these was not a requirement of the home cooks' first Skills Test?

Answer: Chiffonade herbs

The first formal challenge of the competition did not require the twenty home cooks to cook anything at all. Instead, teams worked at benches to prove their mettle in preparation. Though Gordon showed them all how to dice onions, cut bell peppers, separate orange wedges, chiffonade basil, filet fish, and properly separate eggs in under five minutes, the contestants had to do half of that properly in double the time. Half were saved from the next challenge after dicing three onions, filleting a fish, and cracking and separating two dozen eggs.

The rest had to cook in a Mystery Box Challenge featuring Gordon's favourite proteins (rack of lamb, scallops, and pork chop), and two chefs went home.
3. The home cooks' first Team Challenge, serving a pool party, led directly into a two-part Pressure Test involving which meat, then the most frequent protein cooked on "MasterChef (US)"?

Answer: Chicken

The first Team Challenge of the season pitted nine home cooks on the red team (led by Sarah) against nine home cooks on the blue team (lead by Noah) as they served former "MasterChef" contestants at a celebratory tenth anniversary pool party. Both teams made a fried chicken dish, a fish and chips dish, and a burger to offer up and the judges deemed Noah's blue team as the winners.

The red team headed back to the MasterChef Kitchen for two Pressure Tests, the first of which involved properly cutting a whole chicken (for which three chefs were saved) and the second of which involved cooking with the pieces they cut (for which Kimberly was sent home).
4. How many individual dishes did teams need to make for their Tag Team Challenge in this season?

Answer: Seven

This season's Tag Team Challenge-- notably one of the toughest in the show's arsenal-- occurred early. After failing a Team Challenge in the previous episode, eight home cooks had to divide out into pairs (selected by Nick, the winning captain of the other team) and take turns cooking a platter of seven items, all different items from around the world, within seventy-five minutes. Teams had to make six dishes from six places-- spring rolls from the Philippines, vegetable samosas from India, meatballs from Italy, fish tacos from Mexico, pork dumplings from China, and meat skewers from Morocco-- and one additional dish of their own creation. Two home cooks were sent home this challenge; Liz and Michael didn't pass muster and were sent packing.
5. This season, the top fourteen home cooks catered a wedding for which past "MasterChef" winner?

Answer: Gerron

For this Team Challenge, the chefs split the home cooks into two teams-- one led by Bri making filet mignon and one led by Wuta making lobster. Their goal was to spend ninety minutes cooking forty-five dishes for "MasterChef" season 9 winner Gerron. Bri's filet mignon team won, sparing them from elimination and needing to compete in the next challenge. Wuta's team, however, undercooked their lobsters and faced off in a beef-themed Elimination Challenge out on the MasterChef patio, cooking on a gas grill for the chance at having a recipe on a beef website. Keturah went home when she failed to grill up both a beef dish and a dessert.
6. This season featured a visit from Masaharu Morimoto. What ingredient was used while he was in the MasterChef Kitchen?

Answer: Alaskan king crab

The Top 13, reaching the halfway point of the competition, were shocked by the arrival of Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto for his first visit to the MasterChef Kitchen. In this episode, the home chefs vied for immunity by breaking down and making a dish with an Alaskan king crab in only an hour. Morimoto and the judges tasted the top six dishes and gave immunity to Fred, Shari, and Micah (with Fred winning a trip to any one of Morimoto's restaurants around the world). All remaining home cooks returned to the MasterChef Kitchen the next day to create one entree and one dessert with bread as the star ingredient, and on this, Sam was sent home leaving a Top 12.
7. The Top 12 were instructed to replicate complicated cakes. How did they select their cakes?

Answer: By drawing candles

The Top 12 entered the MasterChef Kitchen to find a table full of immaculate cakes, all potential challenges to be faced. Each home cook drew a candle from a cake, and the number on the bottom of each would determine the order in which they could claim cakes to replicate. Dorian, who chose first, won this challenge (and took immunity) for replicating a pink champagne cake. She also took home $5,000-worth of Breville countertop appliances.

The reverse worked for the last cook to choose. Renee attempted to play it safe by selecting a cheesecake as her dessert, but she failed to deliver on the end result.
8. The final Mystery Box Challenge of the season featured guest judge Daphne Oz. What was in their boxes?

Answer: Cast iron pan

The last Mystery Box Challenge, held for the Top 8 in Episode 20, contained nothing more than a single cast iron pan, and with that the judges introduced guest judge Daphne Oz, cookbook author and former host of "The Chew". She showed the home cooks how to utilize the one-pan wonder to create a flavourful dish before sending them off to spend an hour making their own.

The winner, Subha, won the opportunity to have his recipe (Shrimp Biriyani) placed on 'Family Circle's' website. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Bri was sent home off the back of raw salmon.
9. One week of the competition was held in what foreign city?

Answer: London, England

The Top 6 was whittled down to the Top 3 in a matter of two episodes, but this late-stage set of challenges was particularly notable because it sent the remaining contestants overseas to London, the first-ever non-U.S. destination visited on the show.

The first to-do was the restaurant takeover during which the chefs were asked to cook for a dinner service at Gordon's three-Michelin Star restaurant at the Savoy. The second was a venison meal cooked at Hatfield House where the cooks made dishes for guest judge Nigella Lawson. To their surprise, the Top 4 also had to make a trifle with only half an hour left in their cook time. Subha and Shari were sent home at the end of the restaurant takeover; Noah left at Hatfield House.
10. Which home cook was the winner of "MasterChef" Season 10?

Answer: Dorian

Returning from London to the MasterChef Kitchen, the Top 3 were brought together to prepare the finale's three course meal for the judges. The catch this season was that after the entree course, the judges eliminated Nick from the competition. This meant that Dorian and Sarah were the only contestants remaining going into the dessert course.

In the end, Gordon, Aaron, and Joe decided on crowning Dorian this season's winner. She took with her the $250,000 (USD) grand prize, the MasterChef trophy, and training at restaurants owned by all three of the respective judges.
