The news anchors reported the crash and speculated on possible scenarios on the cause and effects of the crash. Three minutes into their report, the news anchors were informed that the entire scene was staged for an episode of "Chicago Fire" and that there was no real emergency. The news anchors apologized for their report, expressing shock that they had been fooled. Baumgarten lamented that it would have been nice if the production company for the series had informed the news media that they were filming a television scene.

Series star Jesse Spencer started his role on the series after completing eight seasons in the role of Dr. Robert Chase, one of several diagnosticians under the direction of Dr. Gregory House, on the series "House M.D." (2004).
