Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This star, one of the original cast members, was known for his dead-on impersonation of late-night talk show host Tom Snyder, and also for his co-hosting of "Weekend Update" with Jane Curtin.

Answer: Dan Aykroyd

During their "Point-Counterpoint" segments on "Weekend Update", Dan would inevitably respond to Jane's point by saying "Jane, you ignorant slut".
2. Also one of the original cast members, this man became a big star in the 1978 film "National Lampoon's Animal House", and he left the show soon afterwards.

Answer: John Belushi

Belushi had only a minor role in "Animal House", but he stole the show. His tragic death came in 1982, only three years after leaving 'SNL.'
3. Another of the original cast members, this talented lady created the characters Emily Litella, Roseanne Roseannadanna, nerd Lisa Loopner, and Baba Wawa, a talk show host with a speech impediment.

Answer: Gilda Radner

The name of her autobiography, "It's Always Something", written while her cancer was in remission, is taken from the catch phrase used by her character Roseanne Roseannadanna. Gilda died in 1989, much too soon.
4. This star was on "SNL" from 1977 to 1980, and went on to a successful movie career as star of shows such as "Meatballs", "Groundhog Day", and "Ghost Busters".

Answer: Bill Murray

"Groundhog Day" remains one of my all-time favorite movies.
5. This performer was the star of the 1981-1984 seasons, and became a big movie star with his mega-hits "48 Hours" and "Beverly Hills Cop".

Answer: Eddie Murphy

6. This gorgeous lady was on the show during the 1982-1985 seasons, and later went on to star in the TV series "Seinfeld" during the '90's.

Answer: Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Julia played the character Elanie during the entire 8-year run of "Seinfeld". Julia and her husband, Brad Hall, are the only husband-wife team to both star on "SNL".
7. This performer was also on the show during the early '80's. He is known for his sports reports on "Weekend Update" and for his great impersonation of Frank Sinatra.

Answer: Joe Piscopo

While 'SNL' has been a springboard to a successful movie career for many performers, Piscopo has had limited success on the big screen since leaving the show.
8. This performer was only on the show for the 1984-85 season, but he made quite an impact with his wonderful Fernando Lamas impression, which always included the catch phrase "You look mahvelous!"

Answer: Billy Crystal

After leaving the show Billy had hit movies with "When Harry Met Sally" and "City Slickers".
9. The late '80's saw a resurgence of the show, as Lorne Michaels returned after a five-year hiatus. One of the big reasons for the show's increased popularity was this "Weekend Update" anchor, who later had a stint as a "Monday Night Football" commentator.

Answer: Dennis Miller

In addition to his "Monday Night Football" work, Miller has tried several cable talk shows since leaving "SNL". His inspired observations worked best on "Weekend Update", in my opinion, compared to these other ventures.
10. This brilliant performer was on the show from 1986 to 1993. One of his many memorable characters was the Church Lady, who always offered the catch phrase "Well isn't that special". His impersonations of President George H. W. Bush were also a big hit?

Answer: Dana Carvey

Carvey's impersonation of Bush got the stamp of approval of the President himself, when he was invited to the White House. He also did a great impersonation of Ross Perot when Perot ran as a third-party candidate for President in 1992.
11. This performer is known for his memorable character Father Guido Sarducci.

Answer: Don Novello

Novello once visited the Vatican in his costume for his "Father Guido Sarducci" character and was arrested by the Swiss Guards for "impersonating a priest".
12. This wonderful performer was on the show for eight years, before leaving to star in the TV series "News Radio". He is known for his great impersonations of President Bill Clinton.

Answer: Phil Hartman

Other impersonations Phil did on the show include Frank Sinatra, Ed McMahon, Michael Caine, Telly Savalas, Burt Reynolds, Jack Nicholson, Ronald Reagan, Barbara Bush, and Phil Donahue. Hartman was shot to death by his wife in 1998.
13. This Canadian was on the show for six years, creating memorable characters such as Wayne in the "Wayne's World" sketches. He went on to star in the "Austin Powers" movies.

Answer: Mike Myers

14. This comedienne was only on the show for the 1994-95 season. She had a memorable guest-starring role on the TV show "Seinfeld", in which she played Jerry's girlfriend who was just like Jerry.

Answer: Janeane Garofalo

She and Jerry had the world's first completely mutual break-up when they both simultaneously blurted out that it was over.
15. This talented lady was the show's first ever female head writer. In 2000 she became a co-anchor of "Weekend Update".

Answer: Tina Fey

Tina is my favorite performer on the show in the 21st century.
