Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Crow T. Robot proclaims himself as "space child" with his all-seeing eyes. Mike removes his mechanical eyes and discovers what?

Answer: They're from J and B Novelty company and cost $1.98.

When Mike Nelson plucks out Crow's novelty eyes, he quotes a verse from Shakespeare's "King Lear" (Act III, Scene vii) where the evil Duke of Cornwall viciously extirpates both of the aged Earl of Gloucester's eyes. As he brutally pulls out the second eye, he exclaims: "Out, vile jelly! Where is thy lustre now?"
2. Pearl Forrester has instituted LawGiver Daze on the Primate Planet. What anniversary annual number is this LawGiver Daze?

Answer: 32nd Annual

In the final scene of the movie, the primates, fearing Pearl's displeasure, present her with a gift to appease her wrath. Minnesota Vikings running back Robert Smith, who had been a fan of the series since his college days, appeared briefly as "Howard", the "gift" for Pearl.
3. What is the name of the professor who introduces the "Mole People" film?

Answer: Frank C. Baxter

Although not a real scientist, Dr. Baxter was a professor of English from University of Southern California. He starred as "Dr. Research" who narrated the Bell Laboratory Science series produced in the late 1950's.
4. What baked good was NOT in the collection made by Tom Servo for the Law Giver Daze festivities? It was the ONE that Mike specifically wanted.

Answer: Kolachi

Denied his kolachi, Mike requests a "skosh" (a smidgen) of Crow's mile-high lemon meringue pie. Unfortunately, Crow's "mile-high" lemon meringue pie is actually 5,280 feet high and he has to climb to the top to get Mike's "skosh". He, then proceeds to plummet from the pie's apex to crash into the floor below.
5. What is the name of the character who falls to his death when the ground gives way under him at the ruins of the Sumerian Temple?

Answer: Dr. Stuart

Phil Chambers, who portrayed Dr. Stuart, starred in "The Gray Ghost" series (1957-58). It depicted the adventures of Sgt. Magruder, an ex-Confederate soldier who fought with the Rebel forces of Major John Mosby and whose cunning and stealth earned him the nickname "Gray Ghost". It was unusual in that it was a sympathetic and historically accurate portrait of Confederate values and goals.
6. What character do Mike and the bots sarcastically refer to as "the Load"?

Answer: LaFarge

Nestor Paiva who played "LaFarge" aka "the Load" also starred in "Tarantula" "Creature from the Black Lagoon" and "Revenge of the Creature". Of Portuguese heritage, he had a natural gift for dialects and was often typecast as foreigners from Mexicans to Arabs. He died in 1966.
7. What riff does Mike use when the first Sumerian soldier appear from behind the cave wall door?

Answer: "Santa will see you now."

Bud Westmore was the makeup artist for the mole people and their Sumerian overseers. Bud was also the head of the make-up department at International Pictures for twenty-three years and helped construct the prosthetic body suits used in "Mole People" and the "Creature from the Black Lagoon".
8. Bentley, LaForge and Bellamin escape from their captors and run into the dark caves, pursued by the pathetic Sumerian warriors who nearly capture LaForge, but is stopped by what "powerful" weapon that Bentley carries?

Answer: Flashlight

The severe photophobia experienced by the Sumerians in this film is a actual symptom of albinism. Though albinism is quite rare, afflicting only 1 in 17,000 people worldwide, the sufferers often experience discrimination and prejudice. Popular culture movies often exacerbate this bias. In the movie "The Da Vinci Code" the albino priest, "Silas" is depicted as a major villain.
9. What is the main food source of the Sumerians and Mole people?

Answer: Mushrooms

In contrast to the film, where the Moles subsist entirely on mushrooms, moles actually are quite omnivorous in their diet, eating insects, worms, roots, seeds and even occasionally small birds.
10. How does the High Priest obtain Dr. Bentley's flashlight, which he refers to as the "burning stick"?

Answer: He drugs the mushrooms that Bentley and Bellanim's are eating, and when they are unconscious, takes it.

The Loire Valley is well known for its chateaux and its wines, but it is in the Saumur region of the Loire Valley of France where 70% of France's famous button mushrooms, the "champignon de Paris", are cultivated in the caves. Known as the "troglodyte" caves, there are homes, cafes, hotels and restaurants constructed out of the region's white, chalky "tufa" stone.
