1. "The Book":

Answer: A Piece of the Action

"The Book" was a copy of "Chicago Mobs of the Twenties". left behind by the U.S.S. Horizon on Sigma Iotia II. The Iotians, who were quite imitative, had modeled their society after "The Book."
2. Tyree:

Answer: A Private Little War

Tyree was the name of the leader of the Hill People whom Kirk had befriended as a young officer. A pacifist, Tyree had refused to fight back against the Villagers, who had superior weapons supplied to them by the Klingons. He later changed his mind when his wife was killed in a hand-to-hand struggle.
3. Tranya:

Answer: The Corbomite Maneuver

Tranya is the beverage served to Kirk, McCoy, and Lt. Bailey by Balok (Clint Howard, who was a mere seven years old at the time) at the end the of this episode. In reality, it was grapefruit juice, which Clint still hates to this day. Clint Howard would return in the "DS9" episode "Past Tense, Pt. II", as Grady, as well as a Ferengi named Muk in the "Enterprise" epsisode "Acquisition". You may also spot him in nearly every film directed by his brother, Ron Howard.
4. Surak:

Answer: The Savage Curtain

Surak was the revered Vulcan who had led his people to the path of logic and discipline. He and President Abraham Lincoln were recreated to stand alongside Kirk and Spock in a "good vs. evil" demonstration.
5. Salt Tablets:

Answer: The Man Trap

Planet M-113 was home to a race of creatures that fed on salt. The last of these creatures took on the form of Nancy Crater, a woman who once had a relationship with Dr. McCoy.
6. Zarabeth:

Answer: All Our Yesterdays

Zarabeth (Mariette Hartley) was the woman of the planet Sarpeidon who had been banished to that planet's Ice Age. When Spock and McCoy accidently traveled to that time period, Spock fell in love with her.
7. U.S.S. Intrepid:

Answer: The Immunity Syndrome

The Intrepid was the ship manned by Vulcans that was consumed by the massive single-celled creature. Spock "felt it die" at the beginning of this episode.
8. Commodore Mendez:

Answer: The Menagerie

Commodore Mendez was played by Malachi Throne, who later played Romulan Senator Pardek in the "TNG" episode "Unification", also a two-parter centered around Spock.
9. Jackson Roykirk:

Answer: The Changeling

Jackson Roykirk was the name of the man who had designed the Nomad probe. Nomad's corrupted memory was unable to distinguish "Jackson Roykirk" from "Captain James Kirk." As a result, Nomad thought Capt. Kirk was its "creator."
10. T'Pring:

Answer: Amok Time

T'Pring (Arlene Martel) was Spock's arranged wife who ultimately used "flawless" logic to spurn him by selecting Kirk to fight him for her hand in marriage.
11. Melkotians:

Answer: Spectre of the Gun

The Melkotians were a xenophobic race WHO forced Kirk and Co. to relive the infamous 1881 shootout at the O.K. Corral, in Tombstone, Arizona.
FAST FACT: DeForest Kelley played Morgan Earp in "Gunfight At the O.K. Corral" (1957), starring Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas.
12. Trelane:

Answer: The Squire of Gothos

Trelane, the "Lonely Squire of Gothos," was played by William Campbell, who would later return as Captain Koloth in "The Trouble With Tribbles", and in the "DS9" episode "Blood Oath".
13. "Grups":

Answer: Miri

"Grups" was slang for "grown-ups" to the 300-year-old adolescents of Miri's planet. Miri was played by Kim Darby, who later co-starred with John Wayne in "True Grit" (1969).
14. "Controller":

Answer: Spock's Brain

The "Controller" was a complex computer system that sustained the Eymorgs of Sigma Draconis 6. In it was Spock's brain, which was stolen at the beginning of this episode. This episode is regarded as one of the worst in the history of "Star Trek", thanks in part to such memorable lines as "Brain and brain! What is brain?"
15. U.S.S. Defiant:

Answer: The Tholian Web

The Defiant was the ship that disappeared into "interspace," taking Captian Kirk with it. This led the crew to believe him to be dead for much of the episode.
16. Captain "Dunsel":

Answer: The Ultimate Computer

"Dunsel" was a Starfleet Academy term that referred to something that was of little or no use. Commodore Wesley gave his regards to Captain Dunsel after the M-5 Computer successfully completed its initial test (That is, before it went haywire). Interesting that Dr. McCoy had to ask what it meant; after all, I thought all officers had gone to the Academy!
17. Roger Korby:

Answer: What Are Little Girls Made Of?

Dr. Roger Korby (Michael Strong) was engaged to Nurse Chapel prior to her assignment on the Enterprise. He had discovered a method of creating androids on Exo III. Later, Nurse Chapel finds that Dr. Korby had become an android himself in an attempt to become immortal. Michael Strong later appeared as General Hobart Carver in the Academy-Award winning motion picture "Patton" (1970).
18. Vegan Choriomeningitis:

Answer: The Mark of Gideon

Vegan Choriomeningitis was a disease that Captain Kirk had contracted during his youth. Though he recovered, the disease remained dormant within his body. A sample of his blood was surreptitiously used by the inhabitants of the planet Gideon as a method to combat their severe overpopulation problem.
19. Redjac:

Answer: Wolf in the Fold

"Redjac" was one of several aliases of a noncorporeal entity that fed on fear, with its apparent origin as Jack the Ripper. In this episode, Scotty is accused of several murders on the hedonistic planet Argelius II. During the investigation, the man in charge of the case, Mr.

Hengist (John Fiedler), is discovered to be the killer. John Fiedler is perhaps best known as the voice of Piglet on the "Winnie the Pooh" shorts and films.
20. Anton Karidian:

Answer: The Conscience of the King

Anton Karidian is the alias of Kodos the Executioner, who had issued the order that killed half the population of Tarsus IV in order to combat a severe food shortage. Captain Kirk, believing the actor Karidian to be Kodos, invited his Shakespeare troup aboard the Enterprise as an attempt to expose him.
21. Barona:

Answer: Errand of Mercy

Barona was the identity assumed by Kirk when he and Spock were left on the planet Organia during the Klingon occupation. Posing as traders, they attempted to sabotage the occupation forces in order to motivate the Organians. But when the Enterprise and the Klingon ship engage in battle while in orbit, the Organians revealed themselves to be powerful beings and stopped the battle in its tracks.

They then brokered what became known as the Organian Peace Treaty.
22. Neural Neutralizer:

Answer: Dagger of the Mind

The neural neutralizer was a brainwashing device that was constructed and then abused by psychiatrist Dr. Tristan Adams (James Gregory). This device is not to be confused with the one featured in "Whom Gods Destroy". James Gregory later played Inspector Frank Luger on the sitcom "Barney Miller".
23. Zenite:

Answer: The Cloud Minders

Zenite was a rare mineral that bore the cure to a plague that spread on the planet Merak II. The zenite was mined by the Troglytes of the planet Ardana. The Troglytes were a simplistic people with a diminished mental capacity, as opposed to the citizens of Stratos, an extremely cultured and sophisticated people who lived in the clouds above Ardana.

It was discovered that gases within the raw zenite ore were the cause of the Troglytes' behavior.
24. Henoch:

Answer: Return to Tomorrow

Henoch was Sargon's rival during a catastrophic war on their planet hundreds of centuries before. The "essences" of Sargon, Henoch and Thalassa (Sargon's wife) represent the last of their race. They "borrowed" the bodies of Kirk, Spock, and Dr. Ann Mulhall (Diana Muldaur), respectively, to build androids, with the intention to use them to house their essences. Diana Mudlaur returned to "TOS" as Dr. Miranda Jones in "Is There In Truth No Beauty?", and she would later play Dr. Kate Pulaski on the second season of "TNG".
25. The Metrons:

Answer: Arena

The Metrons were a highly advanced people who arranged the one-on-one fight between Captain Kirk and the captain of the Gorn ship. When Kirk spared the Gorn, the Metrons became impressed with his display of mercy.
