McGraw told him that men's fingernails leave "shallow uneven cuts," while the ones on Matt's arms were "deep and consistent," suggesting that they'd been inflicted by someone with a manicure. Matt then appealed to Julia, who stopped the interview.

When Christian entreated her to "take the gloves off" and figure out what had really happened to Matt, McGraw resumed the interview. Christian gave him antidepressants for the morning and pills to help with anxiety attacks. Then he asked Matt if he'd wanted to sleep with a man when he sought out a transsexual. Christian then inadvertently admitted that he'd slept with Ava. Matt, of course, was quite upset and attacked Christian on the basis of his having repeatedly slept with friends' girlfriends. Christian took the verbal abuse, telling Matt, "I'd rather you hate me than see you destroy yourself." Christian then again offered the pills, with the entreaty, "Let her go."

Sean found her in Matt's room after leaving the frat party. They commiserated over memories of Matt and their formerly naive but happy selves.
