Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Patty Duke played Patty Lane in the 1960s sitcom of the same name. But by what name was her more demure cousin known, whom Duke also played?

Answer: Cathy

"The Patty Duke Show" ran from 1863 to 1966. Cathy Lane grew up in London and was much more sophisticated than her Brooklyn cousin, Patty. They were almost identical - the only way to distinguish them was their hairstyle. The show is about the comedic activities Patty gets up to. Eddie Applegate plays Richard Harrison, Patty's boyfriend.
2. Which American musical sitcom starred Shirley Jones and featured David Cassidy?

Answer: The Partridge Family

Aired from 1970 to 1974 it tells of a bank telling mother who helps a set of siblings record a pop song in their garage. It becomes a big hit.

The show would spawn the song "I Think I Love You" (written by Tony Romero), which would become a (US) Billboard Hot 100 number one hit and turn David Cassidy into a teen idol.
3. "Picket Fences" was a quirky drama of the '90s. Whilst it was shot in Monvoria California, what place was actually depicted?

Answer: Rome Wisconsin

"Picket Fences" was a 1992-1996 drama created and produced by the prolific David E. Kelly. It was notable for its nature and its depiction of what were considered controversial topics of the period such as: abortion, incest, date rape, homophobia, cryonics, transsexuality and LGBT adoption. Perhaps because of the nature of these topics and or its Friday night timeslot on CBS, the show struggled to find a stable audience and the lasted only four seasons.
4. In the television series "Police Woman", what was the nickname of Sgt. Anderson, an undercover police woman, played by Angie Dickinson?

Answer: Pepper

Police Woman ran on the NBC network from 1974 to 1978. Whilst she is well known as "Pepper" there is confusion about her first name. The pilot episode has her recorded as Lisa Beaumont (though Dickinson claims it was never this), in the episode "The Chasers" and "The Fish" she is called Leanne and there are other mentions of her name being Suzanne though there is no back up provided for this.
5. Paul Lynde was a well-known comedian of the 1960s and '70s. He had his own show, but also played Uncle Arthur of which family sitcom?

Answer: Bewitched

Lynde was known for his particular voice and became the voice of the Hooded Claw in "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop". He also had regular parts in many sitcoms as well as Bewitched. These included "Gidget", "The Flying Nun" and "The Munsters", to name only a few. He also guest starred in the game show, "Hollywood Squares".
6. Soleil Moon Frye was eight years old when she became the star of which American sitcom that first aired in 1984?

Answer: Punky Brewster

Penelope Brewster, known as Punky, has a tough start to life. Her father has walked out on her and her mother abandons her in a shopping mall. Fortunately she discovers a conveniently vacant apartment.

The show ran for three seasons on the NBC network and gave rise to the animated spin-off "It's Punky Brewster". The show's star, Soleil Frye would make appearances in 2000 on "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" as a one of Sabrina's good friends.
7. "The Practice" was a successful American legal drama that ran from 1997-2004 and spawned an equally successful spin-off series. Where was "The Practice" set?

Answer: Boston

"The Practice" was the law firm of Robert Donnell (Dylan McDermott) and Associates. The show was written and produced by David E. Kelly and as he admitted later, it was written as a rebuttal to his other legal show, "L.A. Law" which depicted the law industry in a romanticised manner. "The Practice" won the Emmy in 1998 and 1999 for Best Drama Series. "Boston Legal" was a subsequent spin-off series which ran from 2004-2008.
8. "Perry Mason" was a popular and enduring television show from the fifties and sixties. Raymond Burr is synonymous with the title role but who played his confidential secretary, Della Street?

Answer: Barbara Hale

"Perry Mason" was a popular American legal drama series (1957-1966). The eponymous character, played by Raymond Burr, was a Los Angeles criminal-defence lawyer created by Erle Stanley Gardner whose stories were the basis for many of the episodes of the TV series. Barbara Hale played Della Street who often had to take on investigative roles as the defence of a client always seemed to go badly early in each episode.

She won a 1959 Emmy Award as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
9. "The Price is Right" was always screened on CBS.

Answer: False

"The Price is Right" got its start on NBC as a daytime competition show and ran from 1956 until 1965 and was a weekly program. It came back in a later, daily, time slot in 1972 and hasn't been off the air since.
10. The "Shady Rest Hotel" was the key location in which television series from 1963 to 1970?

Answer: Petticoat Junction

The Shady Rest was run by Kate Bradley and her three daughters - Bobby Jo, Billie Jo and Betty Jo... yes, I'm serious. The show was a huge hit for the CBS network for eight seasons and it led to the creation of related programmes, "Green Acres" (1965-71) and "The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-71).

Kate is a widow who has to deal with the trials and tribulations of three beautiful daughters and the "get-rich-quick" schemes of her Uncle Joe.
