Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first leg of the race saw two Road Block tasks in Chile. The first involved a skydive while the second involved moving oneself in/on which mode of transport?

Answer: Rowboat

Arriving in Iquique, Chile in the first leg, teams were surprised to select a Road Block participant with a clever twist. The person selected needed to be good at 'follow the leader', taking a cab to where their partner, paragliding over the beach, was expected to land. Nicole, Ephraim, Ashley, Jamal, Nicki, Shane, Marie, Adam, Amy, Naina, and Danny completed this one while the paragliding companion took on the second Road Block at Muelle Prat, a task requiring them to hop into a rowboat and collect five fish from boats in the harbour to hand off to a fishmonger. Travis, Chester, Ally, Leo, Kim, Rowan, Tim, Brandon, Jason, Hoskote, and Tim completed this one.
2. During their Road Block task in Portugal in Leg 3, team members utilized what type of weapon to shoot a shield target?

Answer: Ballista

Visiting Clube Português de Tiro a Chumbo outside of Lisbon, team members needed to 'have a hand for slings and arrows' as they donned a knight's suit of armor and used a ballista to aim and hit a shield posted on a wall 150 feet away. If they struck the shield, they could claim it and read a clue on the back directing them to their next Pit Stop.

This task was completed by Jason, Travis, Kim, Danny, Adam, Ally, Jamal, and Tim. Neither Chester nor Ephraim completed the task since they were eliminated before arriving there.
3. Which team member did not complete the bridge jump Road Block in Norway in Leg 4?

Answer: Amy

Taking a boat ride to Henningsvær, teams disembarked to find a Road Block task. There, the selected team member had to wear a wetsuit and swing off the Henningsvær Bridge. When ready, they then needed to unclip themselves from the line and plunge into the waters of the Arctic Ocean and swim to their next clue on a marked buoy. Brandon, Jason, Tim, Nicole, Ashley, Jamal, Tim, and Nicky were selected to be 'swingers' in this leg of the race.
4. The 'sweet tooth' Road Block in Leg 5 was held in the longest apartment building in what nation?

Answer: Poland

Reaching the longest apartment building in Gdansk, Przymorze's Falowiec, teams found a Road Block task that required they search through twelve provided addresses for one containing a tenant serving rose paczkis, pastries with a rose filling that they could trade for their next clue.
Teams were also informed that they could be penalized for exhibiting bad manners upon their visit though this did not come into play. Marie, Amy, Kim, Travis, Danny, Ashley, Leo, and Adam ended up taking a bite out of this challenge before heading to the Pit Stop.
5. In Leg 6, teams visited Vienna, Austria. There, for the Road Block, one member of each team had to sing a song written by which composer?

Answer: Franz Schubert

Arriving at the Palais Augarten, one member of each team needed to be 'a choir boy at heart', and for this Road Block the selected team member had to work with an instructor to learn the words, tone, and musicality of Franz Schubert's "Die Forelle", performing it live with the Vienna Boys Choir. If they could get the pronounciation right and perform adequately enough to get through the piece without hiccups, they could get their next clue. Jamal, Ally, Nicky, Tim, Travis, Tim, and Amy were selected for this task.
6. Before taking a ride in a prototype race car in Abu Dhabi, what did team members need to do for their Road Block in Leg 7?

Answer: Rappel

For this task, teams were asked 'Who wants to drop in on a hot lap?' For this task, Leo, Jason, Travis, Marie, Ally, and Kim needed to zipline and then free-rappel two hundred feet off the Viceroy Abu Dhabi and into a prototype race car on the pavement of the Yas Marina Circuit.

They then rode around the course with a professional driver while looking for the name and time of the record holder for the track: Sebastian Vettel, 1:40.279. If they got the correct answer, they could head to the Pit Stop and, if not, they had to ride another lap.
7. An Express Pass was used during the river rapid Road Block in Leg 8.

Answer: False

This is incorrect-- Nicole and Travis used their Express Pass during this leg, the last possible leg, but they employed it to skip both sides of the Detour task in Al Ain. For the Road Block, they had no choice but to choose one person who 'liked rapid transit'.

Heading to Wadi Adventure in Al Ain, the participating team member had to ride the world's largest river of man-made rapids, collecting three differently-coloured flags while taking the course. Nicole, Jason, Tim, Jamal, Ashley, and Nicky completed this task before riding to the Pit Stop.
8. 'Who's feeling Hard-Boiled?' How many eggs did teams need to get properly cooked in Indonesia (in Leg 10)?

Answer: Twelve

Heading to the Kawah Domas Crater of the Tangkuban Perahu Volcano, one member of each team had to gather sixty eggs and transport them to the crater of an active volcano on the back of a motorbike. Reaching the hot springs there, they needed to hard-boil one dozen eggs and bring them back to the start to get approval and their next clue. Jamal, Travis, and Jason were selected for this task while Marie was forced to participate (as Tim had maxed out his Road Blocks going into the later legs). Marie, who'd never cooked an egg before, was the only one to complete the task on her first try.
9. The teams participating in the Road Block in Tokyo, Japan (in Leg 11) built which of these out of cardboard?

Answer: Robots

In Leg 11, team members needed to 'pipe up or go home'. For this task, teams set up in front of the fountains in Shinjuku Central Park and build a unique robot using cardboard tubes. With nothing but a tiny finished model for reference, Nicole, Amy, Leo, and Marie had to use brute strength to get this unorthodox challenge done. Following this task, only a couple small stops separated teams from the final leg of the race.

In a rare instance of strategy, Amy and Nicole elected to work together to complete the task from start to finish. Marie, who started last, was the first to finish, and it won her and Tim the leg.
10. How many Road Blocks did teams complete in the final leg of the race (in Alaska)?

Answer: One

Although in other recent seasons of this show, the final three racing teams faced two Road Blocks, each being completed by different members, this season only had one. Arriving at Grizzly Bar in Juneau, Alaska, team members had to choose one member to get into a bush plane and simulate a supply drop. Flying at sixty miles per hour, the selected team members needed to drop a bag of flour out the window to hit a target and then land for their next clue. Fearing a second, more physical Road Block, all three teams elected to place their female members up for this one-- Nicole, Amy, and Marie were picked, and their finishes determined the standings for the entire leg.
