Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Say Hello to My Little Friend", Huck discovered that Eli Pope was Command. So, he went after Eli to kill him. Instead, Eli redirected Huck to kill which person?

Answer: Peter Foster

Peter (actor Patrick St. Esprit) was threatening to expose Operation Remington. He'd already tried to force his way into the White House to speak to Fitz. Huck followed Eli and confronted the man outside of Peter's trailer. Eli redirected Huck to Peter, and Huck went inside and faked a suicide for the man. Afterward, Huck realized that Command would always have a hold over him and began investigating Peter. He realized Peter had a vital secret, so he teamed up with a recently released Jake Ballard (actor Scott Foley) to convince Olivia she needed to be involved.

Patrick St. Esprit has been on many TV shows, including "Sons of Anarchy", "Revolution", and "Saving Grace".
2. In several season three episodes, Pope and Associates helped run the campaign of a congresswoman named Josephine Marcus. Which choice is NOT true about that character?

Answer: She was Republican

The congresswoman made an amusing remark about President Grant's body parts, and the attention gained inspired her into a run for the Democratic party's presidential candidate. That led to the story about her having a child at age fifteen, whom her mother raised as her sister. Lisa Kudrow played Josephine in four season three episodes. Sally Pressman played Candace Marcus.
3. Jake and Huck brought to Olivia's attention, in season three, that Fitz had most likely shot down the plane that carried her mother in 1991. How did we, the audience, first get positive confirmation of that event (plane being shot down)?

Answer: In flashbacks

This was in episode seven, "Everything's Coming Up Mellie". We were shown fifteen years in the past, when Cyrus first came aboard as Fitz's campaign manager. He'd first get Fitz into the California's governor's seat, and then into the White House. It was during these flashbacks that Jerry and Fitz talked about the plane that had been shot down, killing 329 people.

It had to be hidden, as it was classified and made as though it never happened, and if any suspicion even arose about it Fitz would never be president.

It was also revealed in this episode that a drunken Jerry had raped Millie, and was possibly the father of her first child. Of course, in real time we learned (as I always suspected) that Olivia's mother had not even been on that plane and was alive.
4. In "A Door Marked Exit", though Vice President Sally Langston's husband was murdered, what was his official cause of death?

Answer: Heart attack

Sally murdered Daniel after he told her he was done with her. She'd just seen the photos of Daniel with James Novak, and confronted him on the affair. He told her she'd always known he was attracted to men, and that the two of them had just used each other. She lost control and "the devil came in". Afterward, she called Cyrus for help. He, Charlie and Quinn covered up the murder. Cyrus later confessed the truth to Mellie, as the pair of them had basically caused Daniel's death.

Jack Coleman played Daniel Douglas Langston.
5. In season three, White House Press Secretary James Novak was murdered. Who killed him?

Answer: Jake

This happened at the very end of "No Sun on the Horizon", and the following episode, "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", showed some of the aftermath. It was a toss up who all would die that night. Vice President Sally Langston was about to confess her own murder on live television, so Jake had Secret Service agent (and B613 operative) Tom Larsen ready to assassinate her. At the last moment, truly in the nick of time, Fitz took Olivia's advice and distracted Sally away from her confession by throwing the debate. So, Sally lived and the Republic was saved. Then, Jake make the executive order to have Quinn break into the safe at Pope and Associates, and copy the file about Daniel's murder. He used that info to create a trap that ensnared David Rosen, James Novak, reporter Vanessa Chandler and informant Shelby Moss. He killed all but David, urging David to be smart and to "work with me on this". The next day David was seen alive and working James' murder.

Brian Letscher played Tom Larsen. He's also been on "The Mentalist", "Hollywood Heights", "Castle" and "Grimm".
6. In season three's "Mama Said Knock You Out", who told Fitz about Mellie's affair with Andrew Nichols?

Answer: Karen Grant

This was the first appearance of the eldest Grant children, Karen and Jerry. They'd been brought to Washington DC to be part of a live family interview for television. It turned out that the children both despised Fitz, and while at the White House Karen actually caught her mom in the act of her affair with Andrew. When the kids refused to participate in the interview, Fitz ordered them to comply. That was when Karen shouted out about Mellie's affair with "Uncle Andrew".

Madeline Carroll played Karen and Dylan Minnette played Jerry. Dylan previously starred in "Saving Grace" and "Lost".
7. In the season three finale, "The Price of Free and Fair Elections", Jerry Grant died during the President's speech. Who was the actual person who killed him?

Answer: Tom Larsen

Just when it looked as though Sally Langston would be the next president, poor Jerry was sacrificed. Eli Pope had the whole thing set up. Huck had warned Olivia not to trust her father, and that being her father was just a mask he wore. Eli set up Olivia's mom to look like she'd stolen a deadly strain of bacterial meningitis and used it on Jerry. Eli came to Fitz and offered Maya's head on a platter, so Fitz reinstated B613 and Eli as Command. Harrison figured it out, and Eli confirmed his suspicions. As Eli told the tale, we saw Tom injecting Jerry (via use of a thin needle attached to the ring he wore), Eli showing Harrison a dead Adnan Salif, Maya being captured, Olivia and Jake leaving the country, and Maya down in a lovely B613 hole. As Harrison knew the truth, Tom held him at gunpoint and we did not learn his fate as the episode ended.

Nazanin Boniadi played Adnan. She's also starred on "Homeland", "How I Met Your Mother", and "General Hospital".
8. In season four, when discussing mutual grief, who said to Mellie "a broken heart is a broken heart"?

Answer: Cyrus

This was in the season four episode "The State of the Union". Mellie's grief had become public when photos of her sitting on Jerry's grave were published. Fitz tried to reason with her to attend the State of the Union address, but she said she did not care what anyone thought of her and wasn't going.

After Fitz left, Cyrus stayed behind and commiserated with her about grief changing a person. She diminished his pain by saying it was not the same as losing a child. He told her he was tired of hearing that, and that losing the love of his life had changed him as well.

He was broken.
9. While being intensely interrogated by Command (Pope), who did Tom Larsen say ordered the assassination of Jerry Grant?

Answer: Jake

Unfortunately, Jake had the audacity to threaten Eli at his home. When will these people learn to destroy Eli in secret and never warn the man just because you want to see him squirm? This was in season four's "Like Father, Like Daughter". An investigation led the president to Tom Larsen. Jake convinced Tom to tell the truth and Jake would provide all of the evidence. Jake was unable to get to Fitz in time to tell him that it was Pope who had Jerry killed, in order to frame Maya Lewis (Marie Wallace). So, as Fitz and Cyrus watched, Tom was ready to tell the truth, until Pope took over questioning.

In obvious fear, and after much hostility from Pope, Tom said it had been Jake to order the murder. Fitz had just discovered Olivia and Jake had left town together, and he was ready for a bit of revenge.
10. In season four, was Olivia ever able to get the truth about Jerry's murder out of Tom?

Answer: Yes

She told Fitz that Tom was B613, so she handled him like her father would handle him. She made him think her father would have him killed, and then had Quinn pay a prison guard to stab him a few times. The wounds were not fatal, and Tom poured out his heart, and Olivia recorded it all. Jake was released and met up with Olivia and Fitz in the special safe room attached to the White House.

This happened in the episode "Baby Made a Mess".
11. In season four's "No More Blood", who saved Olivia from being sold on the black market by being the highest bidder?

Answer: Stephen Finch

Olivia had been kidnapped under the orders of Vice President Nichols. He was working with Liz North to undermine and control President Grant. Fitz tried to comply with Andrew's demands, but Andrew did not return Liv after the invasion into West Angola. Meanwhile, Jake was working with Huck and Quinn to find her location so she could be rescued. When Olivia talked her captor Ian into putting her up for auction, it allowed a bidding war to ensue. Huck had two billion B613 dollars hidden away to use, and bid all the way up to that amount. At the auction's end, there was a tie for two billion dollars as a final bid. So Gus, Ian's henchman, decided the tie would go to the Russians. When they arrived to exchange Liv for the money, Stephen Finch and several gun toting pals got out rescued Olivia. It turned out that Abby, once she learned the truth but was unable to stop the CIA from "terminating the assest", called Stephen (who was working in Russia) and asked his help. Cyrus called off the target strike when he saw Stephen's face on the screen. Afterward, Olivia asked him to return to work for her, but he said he was happy where he was at.

A couple of extra fun facts from Olivia kidnapping episodes- Liz North faced the wrath of Huck when she was unable to produce the information from Andrew Nichols that he wanted. She showed a couple of characters the heinous wounds to her back. It was unclear if they were knife wounds (probably) or she was whipped. Liz and Mellie teamed up to put a stop to Andrew's reign of power. Liz had Huck inject Andrew with something that caused him to have a stroke. This put a stop to Andrew's threats to tell all about Mellie, protected Liz from his wrath, and kept Huck at his promise of "no more blood".
12. In the season four episode "It's Good to Be Kink", Lena Dunham played a woman named Sue Thomas who'd written a book about her adventurous sex life.

Answer: True

Abby's lover Leo Bergen (actor Paul Adelstein) was one of the men in the book. Sue had coded the names, but Olivia informed her that the media would decode the book quickly, and the men's lives would be ruined. Abby later realized that David Rosen was also one of the men in the book. Sue tried to sell the book to Olivia for three million dollars, so Pope and Associates decoded the book and asked all of the men if they were each willing to pay $175,000 for their chapter. Every man agreed, except David (citing extortion), so the deal was nullified. The gang figured out that Sue was really trying to avenge her own wrongful firing, which she received after refusing to have sex with her boss. Sue's liaison with David threatened not only Abby's career, but also Huck's chance to testify against B613. So, at the end of the episode, Huck killed Sue as Quinn looked on horrified. When Olivia demanded to know if Quinn knew the killer's identity, Quinn reminded Olivia that Abby was her client, not Sue.

Lena Dunham became widely loved by her fans after appearing in the HBO series "Girls", which she also created, wrote for, and produced. Paul Adelstein was one of the main characters of another hit by Shonda Rhimes called "Private Practice".
13. Who paid Michael's parents to have a pre-wedding dinner with him and Cyrus?

Answer: Liz

Michael was caught cheating on Cyrus in "Put a Ring on It", so it was either call off the fake relationship or go ahead and get married. It looked like the public relations team would have to destroy Michael in the press in order to get heat off of the White House. So, Olivia talked Mellie into using the opportunity to further her own aspirations to be a senator and then president. Mellie would host the wedding at the White House, separating herself from Fitz's stance on gay marriage. Meanwhile, the need for appearances forced Liz to pay Michael's parents to attend a dinner with he and Cyrus before the wedding. Michael's father made it clear that he found his son to be disgusting and would never support the marriage. Michael, who had not spoken to his parents in years, was crushed.

In the end, Cyrus could not destroy another person. He felt guilty for hurting his wife and then James. He told Michael they'd never be in love, but that Michael was not alone. They married at the White House in this episode.
14. Mellie decided to run for senate. In which state did she want to be a senator?

Answer: Virginia

She officially announced her candidacy in season four's "I'm Just a Bill". There was a vacancy in Virginia, after Fitz chose Susan Ross to be his Vice President. In the following episode, "First Lady Sings the Blues", we see more of her campaigning. She won the election in the season finale, and right afterward, Fitz learned the truth about her involvement with Eli Pope.

Artemis Pebdani played Vice President Susan Ross after Andrew Nichols suffered a stroke. She has also been seen in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", "How I Met Your Mother" and "Masters of Sex".
15. In the season four finale, "You Can't Take Command", did Olivia kill her father, Eli Pope?

Answer: No

What she did do was destroy B613, although not in the way she intended. Eli called her and gloated because he said she did him a favor by erasing Command. Now, he could be plain old paleontologist Eli Pope and no one could ever hold him accountable as Command, because Command did not exist. What she did do, however, was have Eli Pope arrested for embezzling money from the Smithsonian. Huck used the two billion dollars of B613 funds to make it look like Eli had been taking money from his work since he was hired. Also in the finale, Liz North told Fitz about Mellie and Cyrus' culpability in the murder of the grand jurors. So, Fitz threw Mellie out of the White House and fired Cyrus. Liz was seen moving her stuff into his office. Jake said goodbye to Olivia as well.

He told her he was in love with her, but she was in love with him. At the end of the episode, Olivia and Fitz reunited on the balcony of the White House.
