Candace's book was like Carrie's own book later in the series, a collection of columns written for a local newspaper. Though in the book, Carrie had many more friends to exploit and the characters of Sam, Miranda and Charlotte were not quite as prominent as they were on the series.

Candace Bushnell revealed she'd based Mr. Big on publishing executive Ron Galotti. The audience did not learn his whole name, John James Preston, until the first "SATC" movie.
